Thought the same thing. Something tells me the film didn't do as well as the studio had hoped.
I'm sure you're right, Ron. Only 54 days between its theatrical release and street date on physical media. I wonder if that's a record for a major studio film?

Actually it was very successful. So far it’s made $157 million off a $50 million budget.

By gum you are correct

I figured with its ultra-fast release to digital and disc, there had to be a reason.

Saw this two weeks ago. A faithful re-make of the 1922 original. So far, the Eggers film I’ve liked the least. Dark and dour for the entire running time. I’ve always had a soft spot for Coppola’s 1992 stab - Keanu Reeves and all. It was romantic, something Nosferatu isn’t.

Does that budget number include advertising? They must have spent a lot of money on it. The ads were everywhere.

It does not include P&A. So for a film to break even nowadays it needs to make 2-3x its budget to be profitable. For a film like this I would figure 2.5X. So it’s definitely in the black with more to come.

I'm seeing that it did fine -- I believe it is already A24's second highest-grosser.

Nope - but it's Focus Features' second-highest grossser (behind Downton Abbey) and will likely surpass it by the time the theatrical run is over. (Focus is a Universal / Comcast company)

I will get this mostly for sentimental reason (as I mentioned in the movie thread).

Only place I found the steelbook was on DeepDiscountDvd. Haven’t ordered from them in years so I hope they come through.

I just watched the digital presentation.

I’m yet another person who enjoyed the movie but felt it failed to surpass the mediocrity of being merely acceptable.

I don't quite know what is missing here. Perhaps it lacked an emotional connection to any of the characters. While the film is visually appealing, it's bogged down by poor pacing and a lackluster plot.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is a much, much better film that doesn't rely on elevated sound design, over story and visuals to invoke fear.
