I'm usually somewhat dubious of conversions (especially ones done decades after the fact) but having seen the trailer in 3-D last week, I'm pretty hopeful of the results.

I emailed Universal to see if the 2D disc is getting the new transfer as well and it's not good news i'm afraid. This is what they said: Thank you for contacting us. The 2D Blu-ray and DVD releases to be included is our upcoming "Jurassic Park" 3D package will use the master that was created for the Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy in 2011. The 2011 set has a lot of DNR followed by EE. It looks very bad.

Like so many other times on the internet, I think the problems have just become exaggerated over time. Or more specifically, while there's minor issues, people remember the negative more than the positive so when they think about the set, they remember it as being worse than it actually is. From the HTF review (where the set was "recommended")

All three films are presented in 1080p VC-1 transfers that are a pleasure to watch, retaining plenty of visible grain and showing a satisfying amount of detail. I’m marking slightly lower on the first film due to some minor edge enhancement issues that have been pointed out. The edge enhancement is so mild that you may need to really look for it – I couldn’t see it until it was pointed out, and that’s on a 65” screen. I had the evaluation checked on a 100+” projection screen with the same result. That said, there will be viewers who may find it distracting, and thus the slight count off there.

Blu ray.com have screencaps and a review up, its been totally degrained, it looks awful, i will not buy it.

Caps-a-holic has a comparison of the Blu-ray 3D to the Blu-ray. The Blu-ray has a lot more detail.

I already see people defending this release across the internet, they have to degrain 3D conversions, yes that's true but the best ones get a little grain put back in, think of the recent Top Gun release which looks more film like than the poor ( older master ? ) 2D presentation.

I suppose I'm forgiving about grain in a 3-D conversion, i mean, once you've gone that far you are already altering the original. the 2-D is still there to be enjoyed grain and all...
