Electric Dreams and Scavenger Hunt. Electric Dreams seems to have no chance of a release due to music rights and I have no idea why Scavenger Hunt is not out yet. I'd be guessing on any other movie as a lot of the ones I'm thinking about are probably direct to home video releases.

Ken Branagh's Hamlet (Here's hoping it comes out this year, as rumor has it).

Let's hope someone asks about it at the live chat with Warner in February.

Two other Castle Rock films from the same period (late 1996) as "Hamlet" that also seem to have fallen into some sort of legal limbo are Branagh's "In The Bleak Midwinter," released in the US as "A Midwinter's Tale" and "Some Mother's Son," starring Helen Mirren. Neither has been released on DVD in the US, or anywhere else in the world, to my knowledge.

wow, thank you walter. exactly the sort of thing i was looking for. would love it if you could edit in the year of release alongside the title, so i can simply cut and paste into the list on top.

i'm going to ask again at this point if you can edit in the verified year of release alongside the title. updated: for films that grossed $1 million or more. thanks.

It might be easier if you had the cut-off at 1980, it's hard to remeber if a film came out in 1976 or 1977. I just stuck to the 1980's on:

Addiction, The
Borrower, The
Cannery Row
Crackers
Cruising
From Beyond
Fruit Machine, The
High Hopes
Illtown
Ironweed
Kafka
King of the Hill
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Laws of Gravity
Love Streams
Madame Sousatzka
Man of No Importance, A
Moonlighting
Music of Chance, The
New Age, The
Night on Earth
Paperhouse
Penn & Teller Get Killed
Pascali's Island
Personal Best
Phantasm II
Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead
Reflecting Skin, The
Revolution
Ruby in Paradise
Sammy & Rosie Get Laid
Shoot the Moon
Small Faces
Streamers
SubUrbia
Trust
Under the Volcano
What Happened Was...
White Mischief
Wild Man Blues

Under the Volcano is coming out from Criterion.

And speaking of John Huston:

Wise Blood (1979)
Phobia (1980)
The Dead (1987)

are MIA on DVD as well.

Is that the case? MGM managed to release LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN and that had A LOT bigger music obstacles (U2, the Police, etc). ELECTRIC DREAMS didn't have as big a soundtrack, and was also MGM.

The only song I remember from it is the theme, and the video for that (which has clips from the film, as well as the cast members, and the MGM logo all over the place) is on the Human League DVD. That should be a definite extra if a DVD is ever released.

Great movie though.

Someone also mentioned TERRORVISION. That is actually on one of the Showtime channels tonight.

I believe the only song MGM didn't clear for "THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN" DVD was a Human League song (that's why "Whip It" by Devo is played twice on the DVD version - to cover up the missing Human League song). So maybe Human League or their label is preventing "ELECTRIC DREAMS" as well? The song in ELECTRIC DREAMS is absolutely crucial to the film, especially the final sequence, so there's no way to remove it without seriously damaging the film.
