Well, you can get any Criterions for under $70.

Also, The Crow: Collector's Edition still isn't available in Canada.

I got The Rock: Criterion Collection and Conan the Barbarian: CE the last time I was down in the states.

I couldn't find the CE of Conan up here so that's why I ended up getting it down there.

Believe it or not, it appears that MGM's release of Billy Wilder's Witness for the Prosecution is not available domestically in Canada.
    Don't ask me why. [IMG]

Oooh, I forgot Transformers Season 1... definately not easy to get, A&B Sound has to import it as well as HMV. But I found www.deepdiscountdvd.com has the best price for it at around $60CDN which is still $20 less than anywhere else will sell it (HMV is $100) and A&B is $80).
This may just be to do with Rhino Home Video not having a plant in Canada, like Criterion, so their prices are inflated, but at least you can GET Criterion titles here.

    > the good version of The Red Violin isn't available here

And the worst part is that it's a Canadian co-production.

Second the Criterion suggestion. I actually got Brazil criterion for $35 US, which is about $56 CDN, from Amazon. Much cheaper than the $100 you'll see it for here...

Thanks guys. Is Cinema Paradisio available in Canada? I haven't been able to find it. Also, do you think I should pick up the US Amelie? or stick with the Canadian non-Quebec release?

What's that Canada non-Quebec Amelie DVD?

I did saw 2 different Amelie DVD in one store. One's the cardboard, the other's one disc keepcase.

I picked up the Crow:Collector's Edition at HMV at 333 Yonge. Also check DVD Wave in Richmond Hill for that.

I forgot to mention that Highlander III: The Final Dimension has a MUCH better DVD in the US than in Canada.
Anyone get a chance to compare them though? [IMG]

If you are looking for some Dan Curtis (Dark Shadows)horror films, there's a double feature DVD Dracula/The Strange Case Of Dr. Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde starring Jack Palance. I believe it's done by MPI. The video quality isn't that great, but it's adequate. You definitely can't find this in Canada.

Count me in for Live Aid and Farm Aid...I've still got taped versions of both in my library. They're not complete, but ...
In the case of Farm Aid, I was at the show. In fact, it was my 20th birthday party [IMG] . I was at the University of Illinois at the time and couldn't have asked for a better commemorative event. The early part of the show was somewhat "lean" (heavy on country, I recall), but I think it was BB King that turned the tide. Farm Aid was also the premier of Van Hagar, and Sammy's antics/language forced TNN into commercial for much of their set. Here's a list of the performers: http://www.farmaid.org/org/historical/1985/
As for Live Aid, my roommates then thought I was crazy to be spending such a beautiful day indoors taping much of the show. I still disagree.
I just might have to pop in the tapes to see how they've aged...
Here's to hoping good versions of both shows appear on DVD, although I'm skeptical given the rights hurdles that would have to be cleared.
