I can't decide which of the following 2 options I want to do as upgrades:

    Option 1:
    Price: app. $1100
Sell my Yamaha HTR-5550 receiver and keep my Sony DVP-NS755 DVD. Buy the Sony STR-DA4ES receiver and a Denon DVD-1600. Use the Sony exclusively for SACD playback, the Denon for DVD-A and Video.

    Option 2:
    Price: app. $1400
Sell both my Yamaha HTR-5550 receiver and Sony DVP-NS755 DVD. Purchase the Denon AVR-2803 and Denon DVD-2900. Use the DVD-2900 for everything that comes on a disc.

What do you all think about the two options? I really am torn between the two options, both receivers sound great to me on my Boston Acoustic speakers. [IMG]

The denon 1600 is a great piece...and if you have a sacd player, I'd say it should fit the bill...its easy to say buy the more expensive, but you won't be unhappy with the 1600[IMG]

    Denon 2803 + 2900 gets my vote.

I dont know about the Sony4ES but if it doesnt have two sets of multichannel inputs then you will have to think of other ways of hooking up DVD-A from 1600 and SACD from the Sony player. OTOH since the 2900 is a universal player you will have no trouble using the single set of multichannel inputs on the 2803 and be all set.

I would be leaning towards the 2803 and 2900 but since you like the sound of both receivers you might go with the cheaper option if you can find a way to hook up both players to the 4ES.

    Yogi-

The Sony STR-DA4ES has dual multi-channel inputs, and can therefore hook up to both components at the same time.

Option one, no brainer. The 2803 is not even close to the DA4ES, and the 1600 rates higher than the 2900.
