Hi all!

New here! My home theater is a collection of pieces I've kind of acquired over the years, and I wanted to share my current setup seeking advice on speakers in particular as I try to get myself setup "professionally" now that I've just moved into a new home and looking to place these together in a smart way. Here's what I've got:

Receiver - Marantz SR7013 (link to specs)
1x Center - Polk Signature S35 (8 ohm - link to specs)
2x McIntosh CS350 Speakers (4 ohms I think - link to specs)
2x Bookshelf/Surround - Wharfedale Diamond 10.2 (6 ohm - link to specs)
2x Boston Acoustics SoundWare 4.5 in Indoor/Outdoor (8 ohms - link to specs)
5x Additional satellite/surround - Bose Lifestyle Acoustimass redline cubes (8 ohms I think? Can't find exact specs)
1x Mordaunt Short MS409w Genie 10" Powered Subwoofer (link to specs)
1x. Sunfire HRS-12 Powered Subwoofer (link to specs)

I'm not really looking to make a cutting edge system, and I'd like to use what I have. I really just don't want to overpower/overheat the receiver, and I'm less concerned about optimal sound quality. Although I've read that you can do this safely as long as you configure the receiver for 4 ohms or more if any of them are 4 ohms, I'm a little wary of using 4, 6, and 8 ohm speakers in the same system. I use this more for home theater/movie watching than just listening to music.

That said; curious for opinions on general placement or if anyone foresees any major issues in my mash of speaker combinations! I've generally used a 5.1 setup in the past but I'd like to take advantage of the speakers/receiver I have for a better setup. My thinking:
  • Polk S35 as front/center
  • CS350s as front/standing
  • Wharfedales as rear/standing or front/elevated
  • Boston Acoustics as rear/elevated or front/elevated
  • Bose cubes as rear/side channels
  • Subwoofers wherever I can place them

Thank you :)

Moved this thread to the SPEAKERS forum where I thought we might get some more eyes on your question.

You might start with what you have now, minus the Bose, and go from there. That still leaves seven speakers and two subs.

Everyone here is going to have their favorites but it’s really hard to go wrong buying from reputable manufacturers that don’t target mass market these days. From my seat I Definitely recommend SVS, KEF, paradigm for good bang for the buck midrange choices.

Wait for one of ELAC's frequently recurring sales (for somewhere around 20%-off MSRP) on their Debut 2.0 and UniFi 2.0 lines methinks -- I imagine you'd want at least their UniFi 2.0 series if updating your front LCR speakers.
