I currently have a Pioneer DV-414 and want to upgrade and this is my Short list.

    1. SONY DVP-NS700P--------273.00

    2. JVC XV-S65GD------------227.00

    3. JVC XV-SA75GD ----------267.00

    4. Toshiba SD4700 ----------223.00

    5. Toshiba SD5700 ----------297.00

Progressive is a must since I plan on upgrading to capable TV within a Year.

DVD-Audio is not really needed since I dont listen to many CD's at home and dont want to get a player until a clear winner is declared in the SACD/DVD-A wars.

The Prices are what I can get them for at a local B&M store, Belmont TV.

Now, I heard the JVC is not the Best at Interlaced Picture. This is a little concern of mine since I only have a 27" Wega.

The Sony would compliment my decor but What the hell do I care about Decor?

The Toshiba's, I have heard, have some problems but overall not a bad player...

    Comments, Thoughts, Suggestions?

I would have to recommend against the JVC. While the Interlaced picture is fine in my opinion (I think the 'files are a little picky here) it has a problem with certain sub-title functions. The prevalent example is missing sub-titles on the Phantom Menace when you have scenes where the aliens are speaking in their language where the subtitle is supposed to give the translation.

I agree on the RP-56. I have an HDTV and debated on what player to buy and could not be happier with it!

I think the standout eader here woud be the Toshiba SD4700

For less money you get a DVD audio player thrown in.

You might want to do a search on this, but I think the only players that don't have the chroma bug problem are Panasonics. I have read that the Toshiba 4700 is not as bad as some others.
