Upgraded my CPU, question about BIOS and such

  1. Heres my situation, I upgraded my 1.2 Athlon to a 2000+ Athlon XP. I have a gigabyte GA-7VT600 MoBo, I have recently flashed the BIOS to the latest version using the @BIOS utility from gigabyte.

When I open up system under the control panel, in the general tab It still says its a 1.2 Athlon. Why is this? Is it actually running at the 2000+ speed and just doesn't say that? Do I have to do a fresh install of the OS so that it's configured right? I didn't think this was like installing a new MoBo (at least in some cases) that you have to do a fresh OS install because the OS on the hard drive does not recognize the MoBo. Thanks.

I'm not really up on AMD stuff, but was the old chip a 100Mhz bus, and the new one a 133Mhz bus? If so, you may have a jumper or BIOS setting to change in order for it to be recognized.
  3. Duh, I didn't even think about that. Let me check on that. Thanks
  4. That did it, just had to flip that little switch on the board. I think it just changes it from 100mhz to AUTO. Thanks again.
