I'd like to get a higher end DVD player than my Panasonic RP-56 but don't want to spend more than $500. I don't know anything about DVD-audio or SACD, but wouldn't mind getting something that was compatible so I could experiment. Is there any DVD players in that price range that would be an improvement over my Panasonic?

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

  2. Well for this price you can get some nice players. If picture quality is your number 1 priority and you are unsure of if you will use the SACD or DVD-A then get a Panasonic RP-82 (plays DVD-A) if you can find one anywhere. If not then the Phillips 963SA (plays SACD) is a nice player with nearly the picture quality of the Panasonic. If you aren't real picky with the chroma bug and are interested in both SACD and DVD-A then I would recomend the Pioneer DV-45A which plays both SACD and DVD-A

Any thoughts on the Denon 1600? From what I've read it's the same as the RP-82 internally.

    Thanks again
