I want to upgrade my direct tv receiver. I want 5.1 output. Any suggestions? Also, do I need an oval dish to receive local channels?
thanks,
Mike

Get a Hughes HDVR2 TiVo DIRECTV receiver. It handles DD just great and it has TIVO. Or wait for the new HDTV unit due out in MArch.

A normal dish will get your local channels .

It depends on where you live. DirecTV's site has a list of locations that are on the main satellite (101) and a list that are on the 119 sat. There is a also a smaller list that is on 101 but will be moved to 119 when the spot beam sat is launched. If you locals are on the 119 sat, DirecTV will have an upgrade to the multi-sat dish at a decent price.
