Sounds like I need to hang on to my Image copy of Modern Times then.

Glad I ran out to buy it when it went OOP (thanks for the warning, Robert Harris!).

Here is a list of differences between the restored versions and those released by Image:

A DOG'S LIFE, SHOULDER ARMS, THE PILGRIM. Running speeds will change ("The Chaplin Revue" contains considerable stretch printing) and scenes will be eliminated.

SUNNYSIDE, A DAY'S PLEASURE, THE IDLE CLASS, PAY DAY Running speeds will change. Some will be faster, some slower.

THE KID Scenes will be eliminated, running speed will change.

A WOMAN OF PARIS Scenes will be eliminated, running speed will change.

THE GOLD RUSH Aperture (cropping) will change.

THE CIRCUS (New credit sequence with song will be moved back to head of picture).

CITY LIGHTS will be accompanied only by 1931 sound track.

MODERN TIMES Scene [final verse of nonsense song] will be eliminated.

LIMELIGHT Scene [Calvero borrowing money from armless man] will be eliminated.

A KING IN NEW YORK Approximately 30 small bits will be eliminated.

It is my understanding that the Image releases are the original cuts with the exception of The Gold Rush.

I could be wrong.

Brian, other way around on The Kid. The original version was longer, and Chaplin recut it to make it shorter. The original version is what's on the Image disc.

Are the new Chaplin discs only going to be available for Region 1 or are they going to be released internationally ?
I'm certainly interested in the original silent Gold Rush.

I hope to carry a review of it on my new Website where there is already a Chaplin biography.

Does anybody know if these titles are going to be available as part of a boxset or only individually? I'll probably buy them all either way, but I'm a sucker for boxsets.

Region 2 will get their own versions.

I'm guessing a box set would happen, but each title will have a "collector's set" edition. It'll include a mini-booklet, a film frame, and expensive packaging. That's 15 dollars extra.

I'd personally like to see a box set made, but since they're doing these in waves...
