Wow! A wave of nostalgia rushed over me when I read the thread title. Seems like old times reading a list of Divx-only titles by Jack H.

12 Angry Men - I assume you mean the Henry Fonda version - is out already. MGM released it in March of 2001.

It just amazes me how quickly the list of DIVX titles grew in its short lifespan and after these few years, there are still all of these titles yet to be relased on DVD.

Actually, the version of 12 Angry Men released on DIVX was the 1997 William Friedkin remake.

A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries has been released to R1 DVD briefly, but is now out of print. Also, Buena Vista announced that The Night and the Moment will be released to DVD on February 4th.
If you saw the sales stats for the Divx versions of those titles, you'd understand why they're still exclusives. [IMG]
Edit: A reporter for The Washington Post actually contacted the studios involved for their comments. Click here for their answers.

Wow, Daniel Greenberg isn't too sympathetic towards Divx.

I was wondering about Two For The Road. This is an older movie I would really like to see out on DVD.

Does anyone have any actual sales stats for DIVX titles? There's a lot of stuff I'd like to know, like what was the biggest-selling title, which sold the least (were there any that sold ZERO copies?) and which had the most paid re-views or 'silver' (unlimited play) conversions?

I've always found it ironic that the website for Divx owners would take the monniker Divx Owners Association, aka D.O.A.

Well, the only film on that list that I am acutely missing is Barton Fink. Fortunately, 20th Fox appears to have plans to remedy that oversight along with Miller's Crossing and an amamorphic version of Rasing Arizona in early 2003.
Additionally, Ed Wood should be forthcoming next year as well.

Jesse: Yes, I've seen historical analysis of Divx disc sales, covering the format's operational period (and ending on 06/10/99). The number one-selling Divx disc was There's Something About Mary, with about 45,500 sold, while the lowest-selling disc was the 1968 detective drama Madigan, with only 13 sold. The stats made it glaringly obvious that the most important factor in how well titles sold was how new they were; mundane, formulaic fare like Holy Man was at the top, while classics like Some Like It Hot were near the bottom.
Vince: The acronym was immediately obvious to us, but we elected to go with it for the tongue-in-cheek effect. Also, we never expected the site, originally one page put together in July, 1999 with a WYSIWIG editor on a free hosting site, to go this far.

Well, I guess I'm glad I picked There's Something About Mary as one of my 15 souvenir DIVX discs, even though I didn't like the movie.

The two exclusives I want on DVD most of all are Mulholland Falls and High Art. During one of the HTF/MGM chats, I asked MGM when we could expect the former, and they said to look for it in 2001. Alas, 2002 is almost over, and there is no sign of it. [IMG]
