Just wondering if in order to get 720p or 1080i with an upconversion DVD player, you will need DVI or component. I heard some only require component. Just wondering what you all have heard. Thanks.

Not trying to hijack, how much difference does an upconversion player make over progressive?[IMG]

    Depends on the specific player.

Most will not upconvert via DVI or HDMI, for copy protection reasons.

Actually most recently manufactured upconverting players will only upconvert over DVI or HDMI because of copy protection reasons. Upconverting players usually must be connected via HDMI/DVI to a display that is HDCP (High Bandwith Digital Copy Protection) compliant in order to do the upconversion. The small crop of players that upconvert over component usually will NOT upconvert copy protected material.
