Hmm, the most recent issue of the UK publication DVD Review has more details in their news pages. It will be a two disc set, and have a 50 minute documentary about the making-of, hosted by film critic Barry Norman.

No details on the transfer. Sorry. :frowning:

the one I want the most is the documentary for Touch Of Evil...that would be more worth it than an umpteenth documentary on Citizen Kane

If you want to know more about 'the best film ever' - the region 2 release has different extras to the region 1 - with a different commentary and a 50 minute documentary.

http://www.dvdreview.net/news/story.shtml?news.REF=894

This two disc set contains these special features: 'Anatomy Of A Classic,' a new custom-made 50 minute documentary presented by Barry Norman, Welles’ original 1938 radio broadcast of The War Of The Worlds, a behind the scenes stills gallery, cast and crew profiles, Welles’ 1945 commercial recording of Oscar Wilde's The Happy Prince with Bing Crosby and supporting cast and music by Bernard Herrmann.

There will be an audio commentary by film historian Ken Barnes, the original film budget and a collectible booklet featuring an essay on Welles and Kane.

I've already got the good region 1 but I will be getting the region 2 as well as I thought the region 1 documentary was more about Orson Welles vrs Hurst rather than how the film was made technically.

I think having both dvds will tell us all we could ever want to know about the master director Welles' most famous film.

Does the R2 version feature the rain falling outside the window in Mr. Bernstein's office? It was digitally removed by mistake in the R1 version, and it's the only flaw I could find in that beautiful transfer.

The DVD is not out until 21st July; all we have so far is the above review.

This is a 100% totally new, totally different transfer from the Warner-Lowry region 1 edition. I'm pretty sure that the the rain will be there.

I, along with some other people, find the Warner-Lowry transfer way too bright and overly clean. There's also some edge-enhancement. Other than that the transfer is stunning - the clarity and fine detail is truly something to behold

It's going to be great having both editions. :D

Looks like this'll be my first non-region 1 purchase... I own the R1 CITIZEN KANE (with pride, I might add), but this film is surely worth owning two distinct editions of. I don't even have a R1 player, but there's always my computer....
