I'll take June's husky singing voice over Grayson's shrill trilling any day! Her singing voice is unique. Grayson can be compared to Deanna Durbin, Jane Powell or Jeanette MacDonald etc. but there was no one like June when she sang. Her renditions of Just Imagine or Best Things In Life Are Free in Good News are lovely and her Thou Swell in Words And Music is one of the film's musical highlights. I was lucky enough to see Allyson onstage when she played the Ruby Keeler role in the national touring company of No No Nanette in the mid 70s in San Francisco. She left the show during its run and was replaced by Virginia Mayo.

Not to derail this thread, but I cannot resist stating that every time I see the title KTBOMH, I think of a Jack Benny show radio episode in which Jack is talking about Phil Harris in a movie, "Kiss The Scotch Off My Hands".

Ha! And speaking of Jack Benny, it sure would be nice to see the Vault series dip into some of those Benny titles like "Man About Town," "Love Thy Neighbor," "Buck Benny Rides Again" and such. Not to mention "This Way, Please," which had Mary Livingstone doing a curious solo role, as gal-pal to Betty Grable. All fun little movies.

I think June was dubbed at times. One of her songs in THE OPPOSITE SEX is sung by a vocal double if I am not mistaken. She can be effective (eg TOO YOUNG TO KISS, THE GLENN MILLER STORY), but I think she can also be a little irritating to some. I enjoyed her segment in THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT III, coming onto the MGM lot a la Gloria Swanson in SUNET BOULEVARD. Nonetheless, thanks to borisfw I have ordered MY MAN GODFREY.

Yes, Jo Ann Greer (who was a frequent double for Rita Hayworth) dubbed her for the song "A Perfect Love" though June did her own singing in her other two numbers in the movie.

I'd love to see the Jack Benny films. I asked Warner Archives about Phil Harris's early 1930s work once, but nothing so far.

I don't buy from Deep Discount very much these days, but they have the latest batch of Universal Vault titles priced at less than $15, as well as 10% off orders of $50 or more. I picked up the following for $52 total:

    City Streets
    The Accused
Kiss the Blood Off My Hands

    And one MGM MOD:

    He Walked by Night

June normally wasn't one for being dubbed in movies, so that number must have been slightly beyond her range, or perhaps she felt that she wasn't able to sing it as well as it ought to be.

Has anyone viewed this, and if so, is it 16x9 and have they kept the music intact?

I suspect the latter is the reason. June hadn't done a musical in many years when she did this, and I suspect her voice was simply not up to the task to make it as pretty as she'd want it to be. It's a very tender moment in the movie.

Has anyone picked up the Vault Series Walk The Proud Land yet? I'm still trying to find out whether it is 2.35 anamorphic and the overall quality. The German one I purchased a couple years ago ended up in the trash due to poor quality.

*****UPDATE**** I'm getting a rental copy of this in a couple days :) and will report back with a review.

The new Vault DVD for Walk The Proud Land is outstanding! 16x9 widescreen, sharp, beautiful color. A winner!

Has anyone watched the Universal Vault DVD-r of ANOTHER PART OF THE FOREST yet? I played Oscar decades
ago in a U of Minn production, and would love to see the movie version, but am a bit cautious with the UV releases. So ...
picture quality? Sound quality? English subtitles? Any and all comments would be most welcome.

I didn't even realize that had been released. After a few early hiccups, the Vault series, while erratically released, has been good in terms of A/V quality--not sure about subtitles or captions, however. Note that like YOU'LL LIKE MY MOTHER, a Scream Factory Blu, is now a Vault MOD.

I received it today. A/V spot-checked fine. But no menu (typical for the line, I think), and no captions, subtitles, or trailer.

Many thanks. It's been a while ... maybe I can still remember Oscar's lines even without subtitles.
