I beg you, include the complete, original theatrical cut of the film. We're hearing all sorts of information about CGI alteration. I think that's great, that Mr. Spielberg has a chance to re-work his film and distribute it to an audience.
But please, Universal ... many of us in his audience want the original version.
This is not an artistic judgment; whether the modifications are "good" or "bad," in anyone's opinion, is irrelevent. A good deal of film lovers simply will not settle fo anything but the original film, and we will appreciate the revised edition much more if presented as a companion piece to the 1982 version.
Frankly, many of us (like me, with my LD box!) will not even buy an E.T. DVD if the entire 1982 version isn't included somehow (i.e., seamless branching, 2nd disc). Many of us will instead be enraged -- and as a group, we're pretty influential among our more casual DVD-buying friends & family.
I urge you, don't insult us by revising a film, and then banishing the original. Keep the original intact. I urge you, and plead with you: don't let us down on this one.
Thanks,
Matt
