Universal Now Screwing BD of Extras? (Or: Will BABY MAMA BD have all DVD features?) (1 Viewer)

Saw this on thedigitalbits

Decided to go with a BD-25 instead of a 50 maybe? Anyway, I have a standing policy not to buy BDs that drop substantial extras that the DVD gets. I know extras are secondary to the feature, but why should I pay a premium and not get everything the DVD offers?

Given that officially announced Universal BDs have the DVD features plus BD extras such as U-Control, BD-Live, etc, this is either an exception to the rule or incorrect information.

Perhaps this thread needs to be retitled to only point out "Baby Mama" or at least be given a question mark, since this is not an official announcement.

I think this is just conjecture on the part of thedigitalbits. The wording of the announcement ("It looks like...") suggests that they don't know this for certain.

To be honest, is Baby Mama really the kind of disc we're looking to for voluminous extras anyway?

Fair enough, but what I'm saying is that all TDB has stated is that "it looks like..." They really don't know what will be on the BD, and given the extras announced for the SD disc, I'd really be surprised if they didn't show up on BD. Uni didn't skimp on extras when they were HD DVD exclusive, unless the extras weren't on the SD releases in the first place.

This ( Universal to Birth 'Baby Mama' on Blu | High-Def Digest ) link says:

"Extras shared between both versions include audio commentary with writer/director Michael McCullers and Fey and Poehler, a pair of featurettes ("From Conception to Delivery: The Making of Baby Mama," "Saturday Night Live: Legacy of Laughter"), deleted scenes and an alternate ending."

Why would they skip 2 featurettes and Deleted scenes? Well, I guess we have to wait for the confirmed specs.

(I also agree that the title is misleading - nothing is confirmed yet)

I agree. It seems like a lot of sites are reporting release dates off retail order sheets before special features have been finalized/announced. There have been a few other Universail BDs that looked like they were not going to have the same features only to have them when the official press release comes out.

Apart from the outtakes and trailer, everything (including the documentary) could be covered by U-Control, and BD-Live could have the rest. Perhaps we should wait and see how it shakes out.

I find it ironic that on one hand we're complaining about the lack of lossless audio on some releases and on the other lack of extras, but here is an instance where two of the three horror films referenced that might be dropping extras are gaining lossless audio.

Ideally, we would all like to 'have our cake and eat it too', but given the realities of Blu-ray Disc production (i.e. BD25 vs. BD50 availability), which would you rather have lossless audio or extras? I'll take the lossless audio every time.

Paul you make a good point.

i guess after thinking about it, if I needed to choose i would rather have the lossless audio.

I'll take the lossless audio. Especially in this case since I already have the Thing doc on the DVD. But lossless is more important to me than extras. However, we shouldn't have to choose.
