Universal just saved me a few bucks. It looked like a cute movie from the trailers, but I wasn't intending to go see it in theaters. But picking up the disc was an easy solution.

    Not anymore.

Although I have no interest in 'Big Fat Liar', Im sure this comes as a blow to the people who did plan on getting it, and even worse, it more than likely signals that the road ahead will be filled with more full frame release, Its sad, really...

This really stinks. My kids loved this movie. I already told them we couldn't get Snow Dogs & Max Keeble because the were altered. Now, this. I hope I can hold them off. Even though, my daughter understands the whole WS & P&S debate, she really loves this movie.
Why do I have a feeling we have lost the OAR battle. [IMG]

Doesn't bode well for a widescreen version of BABE being released anytime soon, since apparently Universal still thinks fullframe is fine for "family" titles.

Anyone have a good phone number to call at Universal?

I was really hoping Snow Dogs would be an isolated incident. I guess Universal needs it's own good dose of an HTF campaign.

Sounds like a new studio to hit with some phone calls, letters, and emails.

Anyone got some good contact info?

This is so freaking stupid. If the Harry Potter widescreen DVD outsold the pan & scan DVD as reported, who are the ad geniuses who decide that they'll make more money by NOT releasing a widescreen disc at all? That doesn't make any sense!

Well, it's beginning to look like I'm going to miss the days of laserdisc and its niche market.

Universal & Paramount were the pretty much the only two studios releasing dual versions of movies at the same time and that practice pretty much ended in the early 90's as the studios made the transition from the P&S 80's. I'd be hard pressed to name a studio LD that was put out as P&S only after 1993. DVD is unfortunately heading in the opposite direction.

I'm a little shocked to hear Universal go in this direction, and I was more than ready to get this disc (it's a cute kids movie, and the two leads are terrific).

The masses do NOT care about full frame. There is NO reason why Universal should not release this movie 16x9, even on the same disc.

EDIT to David's phone number. I called the 818-777-4400 number and they told me to call this number 1-972-293-5903.

Well, I sent them a message asking for an original apsect ratio release of the movie. Maybe another couple hundred email ~might~ do something.
