Sure it would deter theft but I don't think that it's worth it. Sure my stuff is less likley to be stolen but that's because nobody will come over your place if you leave those laying around.........

Or until somebody throws it out in horror. I honestly think you could do better if you are looking to hide something without sacrificing an enormous amount of personal pride, dignity and good standing with your friends, but to each his own.
