How crucial is the quality of the interconnect between the two? Obviously I'm not talking about using cables of the grade given to you in an cheap DVD player box, but rather if one was to create a hierarchy of cable quality in a given system, where would these interconnects lie?

Oh, and I'm curious to know what others use for this connection and the rest of their system for comparison. Thanks!

Yes, I know this is a shameless bump, but I really need an answer. In the event that noone answers (still), perhaps it can be moved to the Receivers/Separates/Amps forum to get a response.

I use Bolder M-80's with Eichmann Bullets (copper) from my EAD Ovation+ pre/pro to my 5 monoblock amps.
Crucial ? Everything is crucial. If your upstream interconnects and/or digitial coax are inferior then all the jewels downstream will be lackluster.
Not to mention your source component(s). If they are run of the mill, then, IMO, forego cable upgrades and get a better source component(s).

    Good Luck,
