Apple TV iTunes Page Just Got Better!

I’ve just streamlined and supercharged the Apple TV (iTunes) page.

Image

Here what's now being delivered directly on the iTunes page:
  • Buy / Rent / Skip verdicts
  • Dolby Vision & Atmos Radar charts (where available)
  • Placeholder “SOON” badge when radar is still being generated
  • Clean layout optimized for mobile and desktop
In addition, a new request option has been added directly on the Apple TV iTunes page, so we can now submit a title we'd like to see featured, compared or rated...
(No login or email required, just tap the "Request here" link)

Image

There are currently 40 titles available for Apple TV iTunes, with a plan to reach 100 titles by the end of July and hopefully 200 by the end of the year. The goal is to build a solid and growing dedicated 4K database specifically for Apple TV iTunes titles, so people can buy or rent with confidence!

Thanks all (if anyone’s here!)

Hi everyone,

New Feature Alert: 4KStreamSnap™
(Quickly check Netflix 4K titles before hitting play)

I've just rolled out 4KStreamSnap™, a lightweight, mobile-friendly tool to instantly scan a Netflix 4K title’s for content quality and tech specs, including IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Letterboxd, Metacritc, TMDB, Trakt ratings, HDR tier, Atmos performance and more.

Currently in beta and available on the homepage only
Netflix Global 4K titles only (for now)
This isn't AI, it's real data from the database

Works great on mobile while browsing Netflix or exploring the catalog... if you're curious, feel free to give it a try.
P.S.: I'll be adding (soon) 'Common Sense Media' age ratings and Critics' Consensus (when available)

Hi guys, here’s a quick look at the next steps I’m working on:

1. Full 4KStreamSnap™ Page Launch
A dedicated page is coming soon with a more powerful version of the tool, allowing deeper filtering across different streaming services, with more control and speed.

2. New HDR Profile Reference
I’m building a new benchmark system to compare Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HDR10 against a Reference Profile, using Apple TV iTunes titles and/or UHD Blu-ray discs.
This will spotlight differences in brightness, tone mapping and compression across streaming services, but more importantly... evaluate their accuracy through a new HDR Profile Matching Score.

3. Dolby Vision/Atmos Certified 4K Titles Page
A brand-new section showcasing movies natively graded in Dolby Vision or natively mixed in Dolby Atmos, verified from production notes and post workflows (IMDb). We’ll be able to filter quickly these certified titles.

New! HDR MatchScore™ system is now live... We can compare streaming HDR vs UHD disc/iTunes references (available under All Movies page only for now)

It's probably one of the most complex "4K" tools I've built so far. It includes fallback logic (to UHD disc) and handles variations between maxCLL (peak) and maxFALL (average), including mixed cases. I'm happy to say we're building a pretty unique HDR benchmarking system together... (though acquiring Reference titles via iTunes--I’m focusing on $0.99 rentals-- or physical media may still be necessary!)

Again, the first version is ready but will stay under the All Movies page for now while I fine-tune it, fix any bugs and/or incorporate feedback!

P.S.: Bitrates/DV Profiles are still missing for many titles (yep, retroactive checks for about 3000 titles), so I’ll add bitrate support in the HDR MatchScore v.2 (or create a new "Bitrate Health Score™") next month.

Sample below, including a beta custom filter test:

New Tool Launch: 4K Streaming vs UHD Disc Benchmark Page

1.png

The first version is now live!

This tool compares streaming HDR Brightness metadata (MaxCLL/MaxFALL) directly against UHD Blu-ray disc values to highlight how faithfully each platform preserves HDR fidelity.

🎯 Outputs include:
  • ✅ Reference Match
  • ⚠️ Close to Reference
  • 🔄 Brightness Shift
  • ❌ Significant Mismatch
Explore it here: 4K Streaming vs UHD Disc

PS: 'Bitrate Health Score' is coming soon to help identify heavy compression or high-quality encodes.

A quick update. . . New Feature! (only on the All Movies page for now)

The Bitrate Health Score is now live, comparing average & peak streaming bitrates to disc/iTunes references. We get quick quality insights: Reference, Moderate Drop or Low Bitrate (visible per title where applicable).

Quick Update!

The '4K Premieres' Snap mini-tool is now live on the platform (homepage, screenshot below)! It helps us track the latest 4K movie drops across all major streamers. While the 'Latest Additions' section is still being updated, this new section is already running with fresh content. I think of it now as my Swiss Army knife. :)

New: Certified Titles on Streaming Services! (The most elite 4K movies - now officially recognized!)

Just launched a new page featuring Certified 4K Titles , movies that hit the mark across native 4K, HDR range, bitrate quality and Dolby Vision / HDR10+ / Atmos (when available).

It’s not just about specs, only movies with solid content scores get certified.
  • Native 4K
  • Great HDR & Bitrate
  • Dolby Vision / HDR10+ / Atmos (if present)
  • Strong content
These are the reference level titles across Apple TV iTunes, Netflix, Prime Video, etc.
The list is still very small (only ~0.5% of the entire database) because I'm keeping the “Certified” label strict and rare. I'd say it's a premium label between Certified Fresh (from Rotten Tomatoes) + Reference Grade 4K Blu-Ray Disc. :)

New Page: Suspect HDR Titles!

Hey guys, just launched a new page that flags streaming titles with limited HDR performance (or no visible upgrade over SDR) based on technical analysis.

This includes:
  • Very low Peak / Average Brightness values
  • Dolby Vision streams that 'under-deliver' vs 4K Blu-Ray disc or Apple TV iTunes
  • Possible SDR upscales, weak HDR masters (including artistic-grade choices!)
  • 4K titles with no visible dynamic range, even when HDR is labeled
These are not subjective opinions... Each title shown assessed using actual metadata, comparisons with 4K Blu-rays / iTunes or Dolby Vision certification (during cinematography process).

Examples of what's flagged:
  • DV titles that look flat or soft
  • 'SDR-style' transfers marked as HDR10
Hope this page is useful!

Cheers

Updates! (beta version 0.99)

1) Brand-new 4K Films page launched!
  • Unified, filterable list of every evaluated 4K title across services, now with sorting, genre filters, year ranges, format support and much more soon.
  • It’s much faster and easier to browse than the older service-specific pages.
  • Check it out: Ultimate 4K HDR Movies: All Streaming Services | 4KFilmDb
2) Upgraded to PostgreSQL Database, meaning:
  • More advanced query capabilities.
  • Better performance
  • Future scalability (I've gone from 280 Disney+ titles to 3500 titles!)
3) Service-Specific Pages Moved to Archive
  • The older individual streaming pages are now under the “Archive” menu. They’re still live (and updated!) for reference...

A couple screenshots of the new page and filter area below:

Two quick updates:

1) I've converted the mini-snap tool into a full search 'snap' bar on the homepage for easy and instant access.
P.S: Currently, it takes about 3-4 seconds to load because it's pulling from a temporary copy of the database. This will be instant once directly connected to the live database.

2) Finally, the main search bar next to the menu now fetches films dynamically with auto-suggestions!

Hi all,

A couple of updates!

1) 4K Pick of the Day is live now. Each day a 4K suggestion, either from streaming subscription services or Apple TV iTunes (for rent/purchase).
* I don't earn any commissions from Apple, so these suggestions are unbiased!

2) New Feature: 4K Stream Check v.2

4K Stream Check : a redesigned page that allows us to compare streaming services head-to-head.

I'm launching a "Preview Edition" of this tool while I refine and finalise missing bitrate values across services. It’s designed to help us spot which platform delivers Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Atmos support, along with bitrate quality + peak brightness... In a nutshell, we can:
  • Compare two services side-by-side.
  • See which wins in HDR / Audio formats and Compression.
  • Filter by service, genre, year and more.

This tool is currently optimised for Australia, Canada, US and UK regions, with plans to expand support for global regions soon.
    • P.S: Apple TV (iTunes) is included as a high-quality reference point. Since it's a paid platform, many titles offer maximum available formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos and often higher bitrates, making it a benchmark for comparing across subscription services...

Just a minor update:

After about a year, the homepage has been redesigned to include direct links to the All Movies and the new StreamCheck v2 pages. The Latest Additions section now displays 10 titles per set, with more minor changes/refinements on the way soon...

P.S: A couple of recommendations for the day (not yet added to the database):
  • Forrest Gump on Netflix AU/CA/UK (with HDR support)
  • Sinners on Max US
