Very cool. pop was the album that really pulled me in as a new U2 fan.

I would love to see a deluxe cd version with all of the single mixes too.
Just created a playlist of the album with the single mixes..

I haven’t listened to the album in years but did so this morning. I still love most of it.

I liked the concert dvd too. I am sorry that I missed them on this tour. I didn’t see them live until vertigo and 360.

This may not be a popular point of view, but here goes..

I absolutely love Pop. It's a Top 3 U2 record for me. I actually have my original vinyl from 1997, and it's still in great condition, so I probably won't buy it again -- but I freaking love it.

The band have said that they didn't feel that the album was finished. They put out five singles from Pop, and there are different "single mixes" for three of those five singles. The greatest hits record in 2002 also had some different remixes. I dislike them all. The differences from the original mixes is subtle, but they have a more polished, less interesting sound to me. I love the actual production on the versions that appeared on the actual record. So while I will always cling to my Pop vinyl, I can do without all of the redone versions the band have done since. They might like them more, and they may be more polished, but I think they ultimately are not as good with what they went with.

If You Wear That Velvet Dress is hauntingly gorgeous. Just felt like pointing that out.

Totally agree on the album being better than the singles. Staring at the Sun is my favorite track and the remixes just don't sound better than what's on the album.

By the way, I think it's fascinating and weird that Wide Awake In America is being reissued on vinyl with a $30 price tag. It's only four songs (two b-sides, two live tracks), and those tracks are widely available on other compilations, and I just can't imagine spending $30 for that on vinyl.

I just read an article stating that Pop was remastered by edge (along with rattle and hum and all that you can’t leave behind) for iTunes.

I may have to spend $6 to compare.

source:

I never picked up the vinyl reissue of Pop buy the U2 bug has hit me at the moment. I may.
I’m guessing the vinyl version would also be the new mastering as well.

Im not sure how much better a 1997 album can really sound though?

side comment I have been picking up all of the concert dvd / blu rays too. I had many and sold them off years ago. Except Go Home from Shane Castle.

anyway I’m looking forward to seeing the shows again. I also picked up the dvd of live at red rocks. Not sure why I never did that originally. I love that concert and still have it on vhs.

I only had it on cd.
Interesting that the edge did work on 3 more U2 albums for deluxe reissue. Sounds like they will not happen but the remastered albums are available on iTunes. All this at least according to the link I posted...

I like the single mixes and the new mixes (included on the best of 90s) of the Pop songs too.

So I ended up picking up several u2 concert dvds. I had many of them in the past but had sold them off more than 10 years ago.

I watched live at red rocks last night. it was great seeing the newly added songs that were not included in the vhs release. I really enjoy the early U2 albums. I should also note I still have the vhs release of red rocks as well as popmart.

I also picked up popmart, zoo tv, elevation Boston, 360 at the rose bowl and vertigo Chicago.

I never sold “go home” as I never get tired of that one.

I am curious about the 1987 Joshua tree Paris show. I may have to pick up the expanded Joshua tree 20th release to get it. It’s no longer available on iTunes.

iTunes does have the 1987 Paris concert album though.

finally I will pick up the recent U2 concert film from the Paris show innocence and experience on iTunes. It’s $20 so that one may take a while.

as rattle and hum is out of print on blu ray (a whole other post to cover that one) I may pick up a dvd of that one too.

Odd that more U2 Co every films are not available in digital.

I was blown away at how many Rolling Stones concert films are on iTunes.

Rattle and hum. What happened to the reissue of this one?
Note that pop and all that you can’t leave behind new vinyl releases use the new masters which were also used in the iTunes versions. Rattle and hum new vinyl was not changed however.

Finally. Why is the blu ray of Rattle and Hum out of print? A new release of the film was coming and then cancelled?

Paramount has home video rights and we know they’re a mess.

I think everything got a little messed up with the (nearly spontaneous) decision to do a Joshua Tree tour in the middle of their Innocence/Experience doubleheader. I think at one point the rumor was that there would be a deluxe Rattle & Hum box and that the Joshua Tree 2017 show they filmed would have been included but I havent heard anything in ages.

You know what’s scary, in a “first world problems” sort of way? The 2015 half of the I&E tour got a very nice Blu-ray loaded with bonus features. The 2018 half (E&I) was filmed in 4K, but is only being released on physical media on DVD only and only for members of the paid fan club. No Blu-ray, no UHD. If you want to see it in 4K, it streams to web browsers only for fan club members but only until the end of the year.

I know physical media sales are way down but jeez, if U2 spend a fortune to film it in 4K in 2018 and by 2020 there’s no market to do any kind of HD release or even a physical release of any kind for the general public, that doesn’t really bode well for anything else we might want from the vault.

agreed. Seems like all of the u2 concert films should be on iTunes.

I didn’t realize the Berlin show wasn’t released commercially either.
For that matter there wasn’t a release for the recent Joshua tree tour.

I’ll have to see if I can find the Berlin show online and see what the set list was for that one too.

rattle and hum not being released Is puzzling.

I bought the 1987 Paris audio concert and pop remastered from iTunes.

pop sounds better to my ears. I wish the remixes tracks (single versions and best of 90s) would’ve been included too. I still think it’s an interesting album.

I have the other 2 albums rattle and hum and atyclb. So I probably won’t get those as they are not favorites.

I enjoyed the concert album too. Kind of a pain that it's close to 90 minutes so I can’t burn it to a cd. I had to chop off the last track “40” to make it work.
“40” is so appropriate for our world right now too!

I saw that the film of the 1987 show was previously on iTunes but it is not available for purchase anymore. I thought about the Joshua box set but decided the audio is good enough for now.

I just saw the Sirius Xm news about the u2 channel too:
