Donnie, I've heard nothing yet. U2 is on Island Records, which is a Warner label. As a result, I would expect to see U2

Are you sure Island is a Warner label? The reason I ask is the recent Bob Marley discs are on Island/Tuff Gong and on the back it also says Universal Music Group.

I checked my U2 discs and the older ones(October,War etc.) say Warner, but their last album and the 1990-2000 Hits collection say Universal. To make it more interesting Achtung Baby and the 1980-1990 Hits collection say Polygram.
Is it possible that Universal bought Island from Warner?

Kris,

I don't keep up with label affiliations, admittedly. I know that Island was once a Warner label. I have a first pressing of U2 War on CD, and it is definitely a Warner CD. The label design on the CD gives it away. Perhaps Island moved over to Universal over the years.

If Universal now owns U2's catalog, perhaps we will see U2 on SACD. Interesting.

Lee,

I assume that was a joke. I haven't heard about U2 on SACD in Hong Kong. CCR, yes. U2, no. :)

Oh, that was a joke about Warner and SACD in Hong Kong. I get it. :) Well, from what Kris said, it may be academic.

Keith, I never kept up with the labels either, but I tend to notice them more now because of SACD and DVD-A. I am not DVD-A capable yet, so more titles on SACD is better for me.

I believe Polygram purchased Island Records in '89 or '90, and Polygram is owned by Vivendi/Universal...

Currently Island Records is under the Universal umbrella, so if we do se U2 in hi-rez it would most likely be on SACD.

Let's hope so.

I'd settle for some decent remasters, particularly a remaster of The Unforgettable Fire, my personal fave. This thing is now twenty-years-old and screaming for a cleaner release.

Angelo, wasn't The Unforgettable Fire released on a gold CD by MFSL some years ago? It wouldn't surprise me if that CD beat out the old Island disc. I have the MFSL version of The Joshua Tree, and it is outstanding.

Keith:

I'm sure you're correct. I've been underwhelmed by these gold CDs, but I'm willing to try again and will definitely pick it up if I run across it. Still, I'd like to see Eno and Lanois revisit those masters and clean them up a bit; "A Sort of Homecoming" sounds like it was recorded underwater.

I'd really love to see any of the older U2 CD's come out on DVD-A or SACD...these are my holy grail CD's:)
