What type of speaker wire should I get?

    Setup:
    HK AVR 630 Receiver
    Ascend 340 Center ( 3 feet from receiver )
    Ascend 2x 340 Mains ( roughly 10 feet from receiver )
Ascend 2x 170 Surround ( Long distance since I will make the wires go into the wall. )

I am confused on what type of speaker wire I will need to wire this up and from where to purchase.

    TIA
    Ted

Ted, ask this in the Speakers area. This is A/V Sources, and source components do not even figure in your post.

    Home Depot....

    100' spool of stranded 12-2 (12 gauge 2 conductor Stranded).. $28.00

But look over their wire when you go there, often they have sale deals, just a ton of mighty fine brands and types of wire that are fantastic for high power audio use.

How long would you predict the rears to go? More than 40 ft?

I'm using the following cables from HTD.com. 14 gauge in-walls (CL-rated for fire retardation) $25 for a spool of 100 feet:

Sorry guys I posted this in the wrong forum.

Thanx for your replies. I see speaker wire can run up to $100 and didn't want to buy blindly.

This is what you need to know in relation to the legth of your runs:

Other than that, the wire doesn't need to be anything too specific or expensive, unless you are running the wires in-wall or outdoor.

Cool. Let us know how your speakers/wires turn out once you get them in and had a chance to listen to them [IMG]

14 gauge Home Depot wire has served me well for many years.

Oh yea, if you're going to get the wires for running inside the walls, be sure they are CL3 rated.
