Sounds great. I really like the way they are handling these DVDs.

Just got back from the flick. While it was great, I think the non-theatrical cut could actually use some edits in addition to whatever new footage is added in.

Especially the Arwen/Aragorn "dream" sequences. Totally unnecessary, and they derail the pace. Unfortunately, Gimli's sole purpose in this film seems to be comic relief. If they cut all the bad jokes, he'd be out of the film almost entirely.

Still a great film, but not as great as I had hoped, probably due to ridiculously high expectations.

They said the EE of Fellowship of the Ring would be R rated and an hour of footage would be added originally so this must be treated as a rumor until the official release announcement comes out which won't be for several months since it won't be released till next November.

Supposedly, the new footage in the Helms Deep battle involves Aragorn using a lawnmower against the hordes of orcs. [IMG]
Seriously, after the job Jackson did with the FOTR:EE, I'm looking forward to the EE of TTT.

If you check out the 10-minute segment on The Two Towers on the first Fellowship of the Ring DVD, you'll notice several scenes featured there that did not make it into the final edit of Two Towers, most notably that of the character Eowyn (Miranda Otto). I can only imagine that these scenes, among many others, would be incorporated back into the extended cut.
Still, for what it's worth, the theatrical cut is an outstanding three hours spent, so don't pretend it doesn't exist! [IMG]

Notice Jackson said probably, so it's not final. Also FOTR EE was suposed to be R-rated too for extended battle sequences. I won't believe it till it's here.

Just got back from TTT, and it has my mouth watering for an EE DVD like what was released with FOTR.

Even if unconfirmed, it is great news indeed.

It doesn't need to be R rated. The battle rocks on its own merits, the dramatic tension and photography. It doesn't need limbs flying through the air.

I'm guessing that a good chunk of the new footage will be Treebeard and Merry & Pippin. There's the whole EntWives thing that is totally missing for example. That and EntDraughts (Which I'm assuming are what healed Merry's cut and then was cut out). Also missing were more of them with the orcs that was important All of which could fit into the 25 minutes

This is great news. I do wonder about that last point in editing the theatrical cut. Some of the same complaints (Faramir for example) seem to be coming up by people who have seen the movie. Though I think it's unlikely that he will edit the movie, it's interesting [IMG]. Love the way they are handling the home video release for this trilogy too.

I just saw the Two Towers, and I was surprised that they didn't show Smeagol as a hobbit and how he got the ring. I'm guessing this will be included in the EE.

Apparently the Smeagol flashback has been pushed to ROTK (instead of in FOTR, sigh) [IMG]

Just saw TTT this morning with a packed house of screaming fans.

It does need some work and hopefully the EE will include some needed character padding.

On a personal side note, I did not like what they did with some of the very unnecessary changes to Tolkien's book. The stuff with the Ents, especially.

There was quite a discussion after the movie with a bunch of fans and they all agreed.

All in all much better movies than any of the new Star Wars episodes, however.
