I didn't realize it had gone out of print. CBS just reissued it either late last year or early this year in slimmed down packaging.

The book comes out today! Mark Frost's The Final Dossier is finally coming. I don't expect a wealth of answers but I'm looking forward to whatever he adds to the picture. Hopefully Amazon delivers on time, I can't wait to read it.

I loved "The Return" and enjoyed the previous book but having just finished "The Final Dossier", I am hugely disappointed by it. It's about 140 pages though a large portion of that is black or pictures of a cover of a folder. Probably only about 100 pages of actual content. I of course didn't expect definitive answers, but this one really felt like a cheap cash-in. The Norma's mother stuff doesn't feel in character with the original show at all to me and seemingly exists just to correct for a mistake in "The Secret History." The rest of it is just a bunch of things the show already told us or were very strongly hinted at. Whereas the previous book felt like it expanded the universe, this one added maybe a couple things about Annie and not much else. An amusing Trump reference though.

5 other reviews on Amazon seemed to like it, so maybe I'm an outlier, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. (Edit: I'm also reminded by one of those other reviews of a certain other section that bothered me too. A beloved character supposedly wrote a report in 1989 that includes a decidedly anachronistic turn of phrase that I just can't imagine coming from him. It jumped out to me immediately while reading, though I forgot it while typing this at first.)

In your mind, how does a small town honky-tonk do such a spectacular job with booking talent?

It's a magical thing. You talk to musicians and they play New York, Madison Square Garden, and then they get a call from Twin Peaks and they say, "I'm there."
I had the same question and I think Lynch had a perfect answer.

I'm going to write fanfic about Medical Examiner Talbot's standup-comedy career.

If this show were to come back again... and it's a big if, I'm afraid to say it, but I think it's more likely that this is it... Miguel Ferrer obviously can't return as Albert, but I was hoping he could be written out by saying that he ended up moving to South Dakota to be with Talbot. Their dinner scene, where Gordon just watches from afar and smiles with Tammy as Albert seems to actually be enjoying himself, was one of those little moments that charmed the hell out of me and has stayed with me. I would like to think that that was his happy ending.

Kyle MacLachlan got a Golden Globe nomination. Apparently, everything else nominated must be utterly incredible (even the stuff I've seen that is in no way better than Twin Peaks).

I'm glad to see Christian Slater get a nomination though since Mr. Robot is one of the best things on TV.

Don't forget the Golden Globes is more a celebrity-oriented popularity contest than critical appraisal, and voted on by a small consortium of star-struck foreign correspondents and journalists. The biggest celebrity in every television category usually wins. If a movie star does a television show, they often win over more qualified nominees. Just my own observations of the Globes over the years. It's still a fun show, but it's never an accurate litmus test for which shows or actors get Emmy nods. But Kyle getting nominated is still good news here.

Kyle's category is almost entirely major film actors doing limited television series for the first time - Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, Geoffrey Rush and Robert De Niro. Some pretty heavy competition. Going by my previous theory of who the foreign press would be most gobsmacked by to hang out with... probably McGregor. DeNiro's movie star stock has gone way down doing crappy comedies.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, has a good shot in her category, except for Claire Foy. Who do the foreign press choose between a Queen or a prostitute? You have many Italian journalists voting, and don't forget the Italians put a porn star in their Parliament just to have a little fun.

The Hollywood Foreign Press seems to nominate those celebrities they want to show up at their party, with the actual performances as a secondary consideration.

I'm skeptical that they've even seen some of these films. Wasn't Ridley Scott just shooting Chris Plummer's new scenes a week ago? How would the HFP membership have already seen a fully-completed film in time for their voting deadline and tabulation?

I was wondering that too but they said that the Plummer version screened for the HFP before the December 4 deadline. I do have to wonder how many people actually saw it and how many are spite nominating Plummer as a way to show they dislike Kevin Spacey and/or pedophilia.
