Oh, great...I just picked up a half dozen blu-rays in the recent TT fourth anniversary sale...thinking that I'd get The Driver next time....for those incredible car chase stunts and a young and stunning Isabelle Adjani...I think I'll jump on a couple of those low stock titles you mentioned...thank you ROclockCK...

Oh, well, I may be up to a hostage taking by some third party buccaneer...if the price isn't too egregious...

In the meantime, I will comfort myself in knowing what Kino and Criterion have coming...and the occasional WAC offering, like

Wolfen...

I doubt anyone thinks that for a film that takes nearly two years to sell out.

Man, news of that 150 limit on both BBB & HT sure hit like wildfire. Me-thinks Ebay resalers caught wind of their impending rarity.

I recall that In Like Flint was reported as having less than 100, yet that took an additional 2 months or so to actually sell out.

A re-seller certainly jumpd on those two when they got below 50 left, as they were gone real quick afterwards.

Just as likely a lot of those 2 year fence-sitters simply panicked and jumped on it Brandon. But assuming you're correct, at least those enterprising resellers had their wits about them and knew when to move. I mean, this is not a new phenomenon with either limited releases in general or TT's product in particular. Depending on the desirablity of a title, when anything drops below 100, and then especially below 50, it's going to run down faster. As I recall, some of TT's sellouts hit 50 and were gone within mere minutes.

But the larger issue remains the same; fans had 2 YEARS to buy this Blu-ray! At what point in its run does its limited availability get real for some people?

Okay, now that we have re-issues of Fright Night and Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Mysterious Island has just been announced for Christmas, any hints about what will be TT's 4th title? Originally, that was supposed to be Christine, but Sony recently repatriated that title for their own run.

Any speculation what will replace it? The Big Heat? Body Double?? Or maybe both Sinbads??? TT did say they'd only be re-releasing titles they can improve in some way. Yet none of their remaining sellouts seem like obvious choices to me...or maybe I'm missing something?

Some say that there isn't a 4 title and that TT said this when they thought they would re-release Christine, so that was the 4th title..

I am not sure what is the situation.

The 2 Sinbads seem like likely candidates for reissue

I really hope so. I didn't know about the Sinbad films being released on blu until they were already sold out. I definitely don't mind paying $30 or so from TT if they are released, but I refuse to pay $80 or $90 to a reseller on ebay.

I'd vote for The Big Heat, for which the 3 year window is up in December of this year (based on release date). Body Double would be eligible in August of 2016, and the 2 Sinbad's aren't up til December of 2016.

Like you, can't see many of the remaining sell-outs being no-brainer re-issues.

I'm really hoping Mysterious Island is getting a new 4K remaster like Journey to the Center of the Earth did for its second TT release.... otherwise I ain't bitin'.
I'm pretty certain the first release of MI was a 4k master.

Ew. I hope not. It's pretty rough looking. The back cover of the TT blu-ray indicates it's a "pristine new transfer," but there's nothing about 4K (the second JTTCOTE specifically touted the 4K restoration).

Glad Mysterious Island is being re-released. I want to own all the Harryhausen movies eventually and this was a glaring hole in that plan when it was OOP. Same for Sinbad, but I might import them from Australia.

A further note regarding the transfer quality of Mysterious Island. Because Journey to the Center of the Earth was a CinemaScope production and Mysterious Island was shot flat, the negative area used on MI is less, yielding a lower resolution picture (.825" x .497" vs. .839" x .715"). Further, I doubt that both productions had the same budget, being as Schneer/Harryhausen productions were largely regarded as "B" productions; Journey's budget was ~$3.5 million, which translates to about $28 million in today's dollars. My best guess is that MI would have had about a third of that, which trickles down to all costs associated with the film, including film stock.

Simply put, even with a 4K scan, Mysterious Island will never look as good as Journey to the Center of the Earth. A 4K scan might help, but the difference may simply be numbers and not readily apparent on the screen.
