TV's that are HD-DVD / Blu-Ray "ready"? (1 Viewer)

I'm looking at picking up a high-definition TV shortly but am really on the fence about which type I want (i.e. LCD, DLP, CRT, etc...).

I've read a lot of the pros and cons of each type and do not want to repeat the argument here but my dilemma at present is really between CRT and "other."

One factor I want to consider is the upcoming HD-DVD / Blu-Ray formats. I certainly don't want to spend $5K+ on a TV now, only to find out it will not maximize the benefits of these expected formats.. If that's the case, I'll buy a decent CRT now and upgrade later.

So, my question is...Are there any TV's currently available which a "ready" for HD-DVD / Blu-Ray?

Sorry if this is an obvious question (i.e. maybe all HD-TV's are "ready" or maybe none of them are).

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Cheers.

Many many inexpensive HDTV Ready CRT RPTV's, now offer DVI / HDMI......

This is the feature, that gives you HD DVD / Blue Ray compitibility.

We're not sure what the final result will be in terms of copy protection. If HD output is limited to only protected HDMI output for instance, then this is an issue for a large number of users out there.

If your question is about resolution capability, your set would need HD capability of course.

As a CRTer, it does worry me that digital output might be the only option with future formats, but then again I hold confidence that some work-around will also be available.

Thanks for giving me hope there Chris...

I'm a CRT'r as well.... I forget about the HDMI thing, but I guess I never seen HDMI and HDCP as mutually exclusive. So all the DVI only displays may end up getting screw'd by this too huh?

If they are pre HDCP days DVI Yes.

Pretty much every HDTV set you will see now had an HDCP DVI or HDMI input on the back. I would not buy a set w/o one.

I wouldn't base my entire decision on whether Blu-Ray materializes....it might be something else (ya never know). Something with DVI/HDMI (either or both) with HDCP compliance will cover the bases...for a while anyway :)
