I've dealt with UMatic, EAIJ, 16mm, Beta, VHS, Super Beta, Super VHS (skipped Laser Disc thankfully) and now DVD. I'm done with formats and format upgrades.

Why is Our Miss Brooks on MOD? Why can't they release it on pressed discs?

They think that's the only way they will sell.

Yep. I'm in the same boat. I've upgraded some things to Blu but for the most part, I'm done.

I ordered both volumes, but Amazon's site said "temporarily out of stock" and they do not have an estimated delivery date yet. Did these sell in big numbers already, I wonder?

My guess is that they either haven't received any yet, or they what they received was in such a small quantity (being a MOD) that the few sold and they are waiting for more to be made. The low risk of MOD is to start out conservative and only make what is needed to meet the demand.

Too risky to run a significant batch of pressed disks when the title may only sell in the 100's or less.

Me too. Blu-ray is the end of the line for me. 4K? I don't care! 8K? I care even less!

Yeah, y'know, I do have a 4K TV, but mostly because the price was right and I couldn't find what I was looking for in a garden variety old 1080p TV.

But I have no interest whatsoever in 4K discs. The amount of TV content on Blu was a fraction of what was on regular DVD. 4K is nearly non-existent. So my area of interest just isn't present on 4K disc, and I don't see the companies doing anything in that area since TV on Blu didn't really take off.

To be fair, if the DVD transfers are of very high quality, like for example the ones on Gunsmoke and Bonanza, then they would look amazing on a 1080p or a 4k screen with the proper Blu - Ray player. A quality Blu player with a good upscaler is pretty much enough for me.

I have very few shows on Blu, mainly because I found them on the cheap. For me, one of the main reasons why the TV on Blu never took off was the prices. They were outrageously expensive at first, and by the time they normalized, people had already gone back to DVD.

Now, am I happy that shows like Jonny Quest, The Jetsons and Scooby Doo are on Blu? Sure, and I'm gonna buy them. But the majority of my collection is and will always consist of mainly DVDs.

I wouldn't recommend buying Scooby on Blu, it looks like trash. Jonny and The Jetsons look absolutely amazing though.

There are HD copies of Scooby available to purchase on iTunes and Amazon digitally that look much better than the Blu-ray as they are lacking WHV's aggressive DNR and overcompression.

My order says estimated delivery for November 20th. I don’t understand this logic. In the past MODs were in stock and ready to ship. Any online store that carries MODs states that OMB is on backorder or out of stock. But if some are getting estimated delivery dates of October, why am I getting November? Another amazon head-scratcher.

One of the sets says that for me as well. One volume has an estimated delivery time that is slightly different. I think we may see it a lot sooner than that. My Three Sons wasn’t even listed right away. I think it’s just amazon listing screw-ups.

That is correct they do not always work for DVD Recorders or Computer/Laptop drives because those players can also record/burn. But they work on any regular DVD/Blu Ray player just like any disc. Some DVD players, 12 years old or more can have problems playing them but that can usually be corrected with a firmware update. None of my purchased DVD-R releases have ever failed. I wish I could say that about all my pressed discs.

How do you give a firmware update to a 12 year old dvd player?

If a firmware update is available online, you can generally download and copy it to a USB drive (if the player supports it). Otherwise, you can burn the update to a CD. Then follow the MFR instructions for initiating the update.

Because its not worth it to press discs in the tiny amount of copies this is going to sell.

MOD is also the only suitable way to sell on DVD, the following titles I want:
Out of the Blue (1979 TV series)
    Working Stiffs (1979)
    Struck by Lightning (1979)
The Associates (U.S. TV series) (1979-80)
    Goodtime Girls (1980)
    Madame's Place (1982-83)
    Star of the Family (1982)
    The Renegades (1983)
    Ryan's Four (1983)
    Bronx Zoo (1987-88)
