Is a 24 inch TV, mainly the Toshiba flat screen or Sony Wega, a good choice for a dorm room? The screen doesn't seem much smaller than a 27 inch and they take up less space.

It's probably "okay", but be warned you might end up being disappointed. I picked up a 20" Wega with the same general line of thought (it took up less space and didn't looked all that small), but as time has gone on I've been really regretting my purchase and will be buying a 27" Wega soon. Remember to consider the picture size when watching any material that doesn't fill the whole screen (widescreen movies) too.
