    Hi guys,

How does the laserdisc compare to the dvd in terms of audio and video quality? I have the LD and was thinking of upgrading to the dvd. Is it worth it?

    Thanks,

    Aaron

Um - the current dvd is the same transfer as the LD. Wait a bit - there's a remastered special edition coming in 2002.

The DVD release of TRUELIES is not anamorphic, which maybe a dissapointment to some who are anamorphic fanatics. The color saturation look the same as the laserdisc transfer, picture quality differs.DVD wins with resolution points.

DPL surround best presented with laserdisc,DD quality sounds almost the same.

True, it may not be anamorphic, but the Laserdisc picture rates highly in my book and the 5.1 sound totally rocks, in particular, the harrier taking off - I'm sticking to my old 12in silver discs (unless they disintegrate!)

I haven't seen the DD laserdisc, but I will opt to watch my DTS LD over the DVD. The DVD is a mess, and the problems with the LD transfer (most annoying being the edge enhancement), seem to be exacerbated. To my eyes and on my system the LD looks a bit more natural. The sound of course is fantastic.

I'm eagerly awaiting the SE re-release of this title, hopefully in 2002.

I have both the DD laserdisc and the DVD. The transfer is the same, but the image on the DVD is cleaner, less noisy and generally superior, though not by much. The DD tracks are comparable, once levels are equalized (the LD is louder).

    Keep the laserdisc!

Not only for the pounding sound but you get 2 trailers.

And there are 2 scenes where the color looks pinkish on the dvd.

This was the very first DD Laserdisc that I bought when I

entered the HT realm. Will keep as a momento. Can't wait

for the 5 Star SE DVD to be release.

If you're multi-region capable, the R4 True Lies has an absolutely stunning transfer that's about as good as it gets. It's reference and beyond. Not much in the way of extras (trailer, and that's about it) but who cares, the transfer is magnificent and the audio is just as good.
