I always liked Teresa Wright. I thought she was a good and sensitive actress and I was glad to meet her again recently in The Happy Ending. I never thought of her as a glamor girl or as a lady of mystery so I was startled by this photo of her.

It was obviously taken in the 1940s but I've no idea if to promote a film of just to promote Miss Wright. Anyway, a rare photo of Teresa Wright as an elegant brunette.

Ann Miller is remembered as a very good dancer who specialised in fast tap routines. She is also remembered for her very shapely legs. What is not often recognised is that in both her Columbia and MGM periods Ann posed for many glamour and pin-up photos. She was a very good pin-up girl as this photo, taken during her Columbia days, makes clear.

Ava Gardner is widely recognised as one of the great beauties of the Twentieth Century. (Obviously, personal taste being what it is, there are many people who disagree) It's often forgotten that when she first went to MGM in the early 1940s, she posed for a lot of what she called leg art. Here is one such picture which I saw today for the first time.

This is one of the best photos I ever seen of Ava Gardner.

Marie Windsor is held in great admiration among film buffs, particularly those who love crime films. It is sometimes forgotten that at the beginning of her career, when she was playing small parts in films like On An Island With You, she posed for conventional pin-up photos, and did so splendidly.

Susan Hayward was and remains a much admired actress. She was never a glamor girl but I've long felt that the stills camera loved her more than the movie camera. Here is a good example of how dazzling she appears in some of her publicity shots.

I am of course aware that for many people Susan Hayward is a redhead, but a black-and-white shot presents her as a brunette.

Merle Oberon usually displayed a very reserved personality on screen, sometimes to the point of being cold. For this reason she was never a favorite of mine. She did however have one of the most perfectly shaped faces in the movies.

She is more glamorous in this photo than I've seen before.

Virginia O'Brien always held a fascination for me. She was so misused by MGM who saw her as some kind of deadpan freak that I wanted to know what she was really like and what she could do with a decent role. She was a good-looking woman . . .

. . . as this picture shows. I'd have loved to have seen her playing a black widow, one of those femme fatales who were such a feature of 1940s crime films.

Interesting that there are over twice as many posts in this thread than the Blondes thread. This supports my view that gentlemen prefer brunettes and find them more attractive and mysterious. I am, however, married to a blonde lady!
