Great news if it's true, especially since R2 has an SE of this already. Hopefully both volumes of Season 3 will be out by that point also.

If they finally make it OAR and don't hack it up, I will finally buy it.

This has been a personal favorite since I saw it in theatres. The current line I've heard (not from Rhino, but just in passing perusal of news items) about "poor elements" equaling MAR (open matte, they claim) seems specious: if the film was shot at the Academy Ratio and intended for matting, which it was, I see no reason whatever why any film element you use couldn't be so matted on home video. If a new film to tape transfer were created from this element, again however poor, I'm unsure why that master couldn't be anamorphically enhanced. I believe these corners were cut for financial reasons, rather than any technological limitations.

The current DVD proved better than I expected, but so much less than it should be. Cast interviews and/or commentary, OAR and anamorphic, animator interviews and some sort of documentary about just how the project came together and how it was received after release ... all of these I'd expect, but none of them are to be found on Rhino's current disc (though I'd like to see the composer interview that is included reappear on any future disc). I'll eagerly buy a special edition that at least rectifies the first two issues.

Anything new with this, especially now that the entire series will be out on March 9?

If it doesn't include a widescreen anamorphic transfer than I'm not buying.

I suppose this rumor was unfounded, I don't mean to bump this thread, but I plan on buying TF the Movie but if they are releasing a 2 Disc Se, I won't

Yeah, I don't think this is going to happen... at least not anytime soon. Rhino's Sunbow license is apparently expiring soon and there are rumors of a "tiff" with Hasbro, so who knows.

Though it would be nice to get this in 2006, what with the 20th anniversary of the movie and with the live-action movie being fast tracked for a possible summer release. One can dream, I guess...

When Rhino's license expires, does that mean all the current box sets will be going out of print? I've been holding off on many of these sets and would hate to have a mad rush to start buying like 15 different box sets and spending a ridiculous ammount of money to grab these before they're OOP. Right now I only own the G.I. Joe mini-series, movie and Transformers S1. Between Transformers, G.I. Joe and Jem... that would be 9 season box sets I'd have to pick up, not to mention coming releases. That's $500+ I'm looking at!!!

If Paramount than turns around and starts re-issuing all of these sets with more bonus features, etc... I'll shoot somebody!
