Not sure if this is the place to post this question but I'm looking to somehow get my parents old 8mm family movies transfered over to something more permanent and editible. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this or can direct me to somewhere where I can get more info?

Thanks,
Ken H

There are do-it-yourself kits you can buy where the film is projected into a box and a camcorder is locked in position to record it as it runs, but there are also commercial services in most areas that will transfer your 8mm and Super8 film to DVD, MPG or other digital format that you can then edit, set to music and burn to DVD. In this as in many other areas, Google is our friend. :)

I know that in my area some specialty photo shops that are feeling the pinch from the switch to digital photography have embraced the future and offer these services. So do a few of the drug chain megastores and many wedding photographers/videographers who are moving into the digital editing realm and delvering their product on DVD find this sort of thing a lucrative sideline during the "off-season".

Joe
