Hi,

I have a Toshiba HD-A3KU HD DVD player that has stopped working. When loaded with a dvd, it never goes beyond "Loading" stage. I opened up the machine and noticed that after the tray closes, the DVD initially spins for a few seconds and then stops. The machine never indicates any sort of problem, and continues displaying the "Loading" message forever. Any ideas on a fix, or do I need to swap out the whole HD-DVD drive?

Might try cleaning the lens of the laser. Other than that, likely not much you can do.

If you have a lot of DVD-HD discs, you will probably have to find a used player. We’re in the waning days of discs in general (there aren’t many players on the market anymore), and I can’t find a single so-called “universal disc player” that supported HD-DVD.

It will probably be cheaper to just buy a used one on ebay. That's what I did. I think I got mine for $40 shipped.

Thanks for the comments. I tried cleaning the lens of the HD DVD player, but that didn't fix the problem. So I am looking into buying a cheap used player.
