I believe that this is a new model 4:3 Toshiba. With the new 540p/1080i scanning will this allow this TV to do vertical compression with a DVD source?

That is correct! While in compression mode the word is that the image raster will slowly scan up and down the screen to avoid "burn in".

Will this set do the V-Compression with an interlaced source, such as a video game system like the PS2 or XBOX?
