I want to buy a progressive DVD player as a wedding gift for a friend who has the toshiba..DOn't want to spend more than $300. What do I get??? need to purchase ASAP since the wedding is tomorrow..hahaah...
I've read about the Pana RP91 but it's a bit out of my price range...there's gotta be something for less than $300 that's as good as the rp91

Greetings

Just get him a Panny RP62 for $170 and be done with it.

A great little progressive scan unit. Not perfect, but what is.

Regards

Well, it's probably too late now, but...

If he's into Toshiba and you want to spend a certain amount of money to convince yourself it's a worthy component, then go with the Toshiba 4800 or 5800. They will steadily approach that $300 mark you are looking for.

Mike,

I own both the Toshiba 57HX81 RPTV and the Toshiba 4700 DVD player. I strongly recommend this combination. They work beautifully together. The 4800 model is more or less the 2002 version of the 4700.

Not sure if you still need this information, but here goes anyway. :)
Like David, I own both the 57HX81 and the 4700, and they work fantastic. The only difference with the 5700 is different styling and HDCD support. I'd say just pick up the 4700 for around $220 or so.

The 4700 should be cheaper than that. I saw it for 129 on closeout a few weeks back. The 4800 is regularly 200 bucks or less at Best Buy. I was in error on the 5800, as it is just a rumor at this point.
