Toshiba 4700 or 5700? HDCD worth it? (1 Viewer)

I'm thinking of purchasing a DVD player from onecall and these are the two candidates. I don't really care for the silver finish of the 5700 since ALL my other equipment is grey. The only difference(besides color) seems to be that the 5700 plays HDCDs, is HDCD that good? Also, is it true that Toshiba's Cinema line(5700) cannot be shipped out of state, which would mean I could not buy it from onecall?

I have a 5700 on the way that I bought for 200. I'll let you know my impressions when the unit arrives.

Kyle, I believe the '5700 can be shipped out of state. OneCall is an authorized dealer, so if they are shipping the '5700, it has to be O.K. OneCall ships the '9200 anywhere in the US.

In my opinion, HDCD is not a big deal. I look for the HDCD logo because I find that HDCD discs are well mastered. However, they sound great on quality non-HDCD players. That said, you might find that the '5700 is a better CD player than the '4700 overall. Perhaps Toshiba upgraded the audio section the '5700 relative to the '4700. Last year, a couple British magazines published reviews of the Harman/Kardon CDR 20 and CDR 30 CD recorders. The CDR 30, which incorporates HDCD decoding, was rated the better CD player than the non-HDCD CDR 20. Perhaps the same is true of the Toshiba '5700 versus the '4700.

I have the 4700 and am not too impressed with the interlaced quality... Am waiting for a transcoder to connect it to my PJ. But i hear the Panny RP56 is a great deal for prog scan...
