Size vs. Quality:
What are the opinions on small Rear Projection TV (42HDX82)
compared to CRT TV 34XBR800.

Both are 16/9
42 Projection or 34 CRT?

Another choice is the CRT 34XBR800 (16/9) or the 36XBR800(4/3)?
When the 36 is in 16/9 mode is larger than the 34" 16/9 TV.
Then why 34 over 36?

Definetly go with Toshiba the size is alot larger and picture quality will, IMO, be more filmlike and smooth compared to the direct view.

If you are more then 5 feet away, get the tosh!

Will you be playing any video games on this TV? If so, you might want to avoid rear proj. so you don't have to worry about all the burn-in issues.

As far why get the 34" 16:9 set over the 36" 4:3 set, most people on this forum and others prefer the 16:9 set because:

1) They don't like the black bars on the 4:3 set when watching widescreen DVDs or HDTV.

2) The 4:3 screen ratio is an old-school, 50+ years old format. In the near future all new TV programming should be the 16:9 ratio.

3) The 16:9 set has a "cool" factor.
