Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Toshiba 42h81 Widescreen set. So far I am really liking loving the set though I do have some issues. The set was purchased about 3 weeks ago. Over time it has settles in and I am starting to notice some geometry issues. On 2:35:1 aspect ratios film I am noticing that the widescreen bars have a rainbow-ish effect happening. The bend at the ends and a tad off the screens. That goes for top and bottom.

Also I am noticing that the picture tilts slightly to the left, which makes the entire picture look a tad off center. These are things that some might notice but I am horribly maticulous about these kinds of thing. I have three questions:

1. Is this something that I could fix myself through the service or design menu's? I have had some experience in some televisions with these menu's but I am a bit frightened to try my hand with this Hi-def set.

2. If I can fix it, how difficult is it to set the geometry and convergence on this particular set? As I said above I'm no expert at these things but..I'm curious.

3. Is this something that maybe I should contact Toshiba about and use my warranty for? Perhaps have a technicician come out to do the fixes? My concern here is that I have dealt with these kinds of problems before and previous technicians have done nothing but FUBAR my old television. (IE not good experiences!) What could I do to prevent a "FUBAR" scenario from happening?

Any and all help is *VERY* appreciated

PS. I have gone ahead and ordered an convergence grid for the 42h81 and I should be recieving it soon. Any tips on this would also help.

The convergence grid will help you.

Doing service level convergence (and geometry) will fix your problem. Its not too hard to do.

Keohi HDTV has an excellent "how to" guide.

Gregg,

Thanks for the reply. I have some comments and questions. First, its good to here that its not too difficult to do. Secondly, would I have to buy a convergence grid for *each* particular picture size mode for the 42h81? (ie TW1, TW2, TW3, Full)

Finally do you happen to have a direct link to that "How to" guide? I tried doing a search on their site but could not find it.

No, the grid is the same for each picture size mode. When you adjust it, it stays the same for all of the other ones.
