Tosh SD-1600U Service code (1 Viewer)

I have a bud who has a this low end DVD player that will not read discs anymore.
It is in pristine condition.
I was wondering if there is a way to get into the service menu to somehow to reset it.
I'm just trying to help a bud out here and its payback time.

Previous Toshibas' service menus could be accessed by removing any discs from the tray and entering zoom, 6, 0, 6, zoom on the remote control. I don't believe this menu will allow you to reset the player, however; this should be listed somewhere in the player's user manual.
