Hello all and here we go again!
Looking for information/substantiation of the claim below. I found it somewhere and lost the bookmark. Any information appreciated but **IF** this is true then good news for those of us interested in the 4:3 sets.
Still wondering why the manufacturers are so secretive about new models?
Thanks!!!
If you can wait a few months, Toshiba will have a 53" set in September
(53HX71). Upgrades include new CRTs, new lenses, an auto-convergence system
and vertical compression for any input type (anamorphic DVD support). These
additions make it pretty much identical, feature wise, to the Sony.

...vertical compression for any input type (anamorphic DVD support).
Fuckers seemed to have changed their tune re: burn in concerns. I'd be absolutely pissed if it were not for the fact that the 50" is as big as I can fit in my wall unit.

Well Jay it might be time to get pissed 'cause supposedly they are still going to produce the 50" version. If that is the case, I would be hacked too and their tune? Might it have something to do with the description of the new guns which "supposedly" have a phosphor that "mitigates" burn in?
RE: current thread HTSPOT link.
They'll just say they're new technology is why they can now offer this feature, not market forces.
This from the HTSPOT LINK:
>>>>>>>>>>
In addition, all Cinema Series projection TVs feature new improved PowerFocus HD Plus CRTs that provide a 20 percent increase in sharpness over conventional CRTs. The new CRTs utilize two unique Toshiba technologies, Impregnated Cathode technology for a sharper image and longer CRT life, plus a special Spherical Phosphor layer which creates better image uniformity and resists burn-in.
>>>>>>>>>>
And this statement from the "flyer"
---Vertical Compression H/V scaling letterbox.
What do you think that is?

Greetings
You know, this 20% improved crt focus/sharpness bit sounds suspiciously like the end result of the Herman-TLV Maneuver.
