The audio sounded like it was coming through a tin can the entire time. Was I alone in experiencing this?

I don't think there will be a repeat on NBC, but maybe on CNBC, MSNBC, or whatever other channels are also covering the Olympics.

I got really ticked off at that jerk, Bodie.

He thought he was too cool to wear a hat. Everyone else on the team wore the official uniform during the march of the US team into the stadium, except him. I guess he is better than everyone else and doesn't have to be a team player.

    No Class.

I have one major complaint and an observation regarding the opening ceremonies.

The downconversion from HDTV to standard Def was just horrible, I have seen rainbows on my tv before but last was just terrible, almost unwatchable.

I was surprised by all the American pop songs during the parade of atheletes.

yes, I was watching it on my 27" LCD at college in SD and it looked horrible. I couldn't even what it said in the corner about the people bringing the torch in. Rainbows everywhere too.

I talked to my mom back home, where she has my 53" RPTV and she was getting it in HD...I was never more homesick.

My wife and I have this ongoing unserious debate about what music is most pleasing and fun and appealing to the largest audience and she contends it is 70s disco, soul and r'n'b. Like for example, we've been in many casinos and when the canned music switches to this type, people tend to get into and she'll point it out.

I dont even really argue or debate. Anyway...so here we are in Torino, Italy and the parade of nations begins, and guess what they play....70s disco and now, for all time, she has me beat, because if its appealing enough to satisfy people from all countries, then...well you get the idea.

    haha !

I have to give kudos to Bob Costas, Brian Williams and Mary Carillo for not talking through the entire ceremony like Costas and Katie Couric did at Athens.

Costas still made his requisite idiotic jokes though.

I ended up watching most of it via DVR though on an LCD monitor rather than my HD set. That way I got through the 4 hour ceremony in a little over an hour.

NBC lost the HD feed last night, had to watch the SD feed for most of the broadcast.

That's part of the fun! [IMG] I didn't think they stuck out at all, though, since I guess I'm used to them.

My NBC affiliate didn't lose the HD feed last night, but there were a ton of video dropouts that made it intolerable.

The WFMJ (Youngstown, OH NBC affiliate) chief engineer posted last night on AVS and said, "I was just informed by my master control operator that weather problems in NY are causing the dropouts across the country."

I was just curious. Having Peter Gabriel sing 'Imagine' seemed odd to me. There are so many great Italian singer, why use a British one?

Because Yoko probably wouldn't let anyone sing it in Italian.

The HD feed is pretty noisy at times, much more frequently that, say, a CBS NFL game. I hope this is due to the event and not the fact that it's sports, or Sunday Night Football is going to be disappointing.

Peter Gabriel's performance of Imagine was excellent - a dark, brooding rendition that really suits the times. He didn't pep it up for the occasion like one might have expected. His performance made up for the horrible intro by Yoko Ono.

The camerawork during the part of the opening ceremony where they were recreating the Birth of Venus was horrible! Venus starts to rise up out of the stage, and maybe she was too glamorous because they then cut to a wide shot from a zillion miles back, and then when the other elements of the "painting" start appearing (the Wind character and the woman he holds aloft) the cameras totally ignored them. I can only hope that there were other shots recorded that could be used to fix this blunder if they ever release this on DVD.

I too was surprised and perplexed by Italy's love of 1980s pop. Sounded like all the tunes from Rhino's collection.

The man with the fish-fin head and the cardiovascular system on the outside of his body suit looked like a frikkin' idiot. He was the director of the piece, they said. And those poor atheletes who had to breathe in the burnt rubber from that racecar!

Opening ceremonies are known for being weird, but this was one of the weirder ones IMO.

One more Yoko comment: why the heck are you holding your script when all you have to do is yell "PEACE!" 50 times?

Just wondering how long it will be before the FCC gets a complaint regarding NBC broadcasting offensive content.
