Great news about another Cary Grant film, but I think this company has not a good reputation regarding the quality of its releases?
Hope this is good.

Somewhat mixed, I believe, but it should be a substantial improvement over what's been available of this title, to date! This will likely be a day one purchase for me!

CHEERS! :)

I was satisfied with their release of the '51 Christmas Carol on BD.

Topper looks horrendous on home video. TCM was showing an SD master of a UCLA restoration not long ago, and that was actually watchable. If VCI is able to access that and make a new HD master, or access a comparable source, this should be miles ahead of what I have now.

oh for heavens sake would someone please do a proper treatment of the Hal Roach holdings, surely they has to be something in better condition to give this a proper release, this will end up being a preorder on my part

I have several VCI titles I feel look very good, A Christmas Carol and City of the Dead (aka Horror Hotel) being two.

I'll be doing a rewatching of my old Hallmark/Artisan release to see how "bad" it might look, but this is a long-time favorite and I'll likely upgrade even if that DVD looks OK.

Even though the sequels weren't as good, I'd still like to see them re-released.

I'll be pre-ordering this BD edition of Topper (along with One Million B.C.)...I see that this is 'exclusive' to MVD Entertainment Group, has anyone here done business with them? (I see they've been in business since 1986) I'm confident that VCI will give us an appreciably better viewing of this great film than we have previously had...although their output is sporadic, everything I have from VCI is good to excellent in quality...A Christmas Carol Blu, Sam Peckinpah's The Deadly Companions on DVD, Burke's Law and Honey West TV series on DVD...very happy with their product...I just wish they could be more active ...but I guess I'm spoiled by Kino Lorber's prodigious output...

This is a frequently hilarious movie, thanks in large part to Roland Young's superb physical performance, upon which I have a suspicion Steve Martin partly based his movements in the film ALL OF ME. Leo G. Carroll was funny in the later t.v. series, but Young just steals this one...not hard to do when the two leads are largely invisible! If this is going to be a decent transfer, I'm all in.

I am puzzled myself since this film's elements are held by Sonar Entertainment, so could this be some unauthorized reissue?

Perhaps it could be that Sonar licensed TOPPER (1937) and ONE MILLION, B.C. (1940) to VCI Entertainment?
It also appears to me that Sonar might have a sub-licensing deal with Criterion, as the latter has a minute long clip of the found Reel 2 footage of Laurel & Hardy's THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY (1927) posted on YouTube, courtesy of Sonar Entertainment!

CHEERS! :)

well if it was something more like that i would be ecstatic, that is my biggest complaint with the Hal Roach Studios output, great family friendly, but so abused and misused. because the TV distribution and theatrical distribution packages are owned by different companies if i remember correctly and this is from someone with both the Complete Little Rascles and The Essential Laurel and Hardy sets that were put out. If these along with the other Roach titles could get the Criterion or Kino level of treatment who knows.

if that level of work was done, what a blessing it would be for future generation, and it would make some of us older folks pretty happy too
