TOP GUN - an oldie but goodie, at least I think so. I love this movie and have always wanted to get it on dvd. I cannot find a review of the dvd on the web anywhere. Can anyone please let me know how the video and audio is on it?

    Is it dd 5.1?

    Thank you

The DVD is good quality but not stellar. The widescreen transfer is a non-anamorphic 2:1 aspect ratio, not exactly the original theatrical aspect ratio (which was 2.35:1 I think). There is also a "full frame" transfer on the same disc.

A DD 5.1 track exists as well as a 2.0 Prologic track; the sound quality is good, especially the music and flight scenes (lots of bass!), but it's not quite the same as newer, made for 5.1 from the get go movies.

The disc is bare bones, no extras as I recall. There might be a trailer, but nothing else.

Warts and all, it's still one of our favorite discs.

a/v is just average. this needs a reissue. 16x9 enhanced with dts es would be cool.
