Just kidding, neat list. I've actually heard of 17 of them, tho I only ever knew that the Proclaimers were Scottish, and who can forget the Bay City Rollers in kilts.

"If its not Scottish, its CRAP!"

Apologies if you have not seen Mike Meyers do his "All Things Scottish" skits on Saturday Night Live.

And I would probably add AC/DC to the list, only because the the Youngs were Scottish immigrants to Australia, right? OK, maybe thats a stretch.

One more thing...there was a quote somewhere that I liked. Allow me to misquote it here:

"The definition of a gentlemen is one who knows how to play the bag pipes, but refrains from doing so".

Yeah I remember that one, pretty funny. My wife was almost arrested for "smuggling" Hagis into the US. Guess that is a big no-no.
I was just amazed on how many bands I knew and liked. I feel like jumpin on a plane and drinking my self blind at King Tut's Wah Wah Palace....love that name!

Yeah, the list above doesn't include bands by emigrates, otherwise bands like Talking Heads could be included.

Personally, I grew up listening to a lot of the bands on the list that I can't imagine are well known outside of the UK, bands like Wet, Wet, Wet, Goodbye Mr.Mackenzie (though the Garbage link has helped gain them fame), Bis etc. The order is a bit random too.

There are a lot of great bands there. #41 my favorite of the bunch. #44 a close second.

I thought Aztec Camera was a Scottish band...?

Average White Band is the cream of the crop. "catch me before I have to testify"

    Grant,

You so missed The Wedding Present. If you don't bump something for it, you better change your list to the top 51 Scottish Bands. [IMG]

i love belle and sebastian. it's funny, my cousin, who is a musician from scotland, came to visit last year. i only met him about 15 years ago, but we instantly bonded this time, mostly because of our love of the same bands. he was browsing through my CDs, and picked one up, and said "you like these guys, i know all of them". i guess he plays with them sometimes, but probably not so much anymore, with their success. it was just strange to see he knew all the people in a band that i liked without knowing he knew them.

Egg on my face. I was positive they were Scottish, but a quick double check shows them from Leeds. :b
