Well, two years later and 3/5 of my immediate needs were filled, only a little more than 1/5 on my waiting list, and... *GASP*... a whole 4 out of my NEVER GONNA HAPPEN list were announced with street dates. I must be doing something right, so I'm going to create another wishlist just like that one. Here goes:

My immediate needs:

1) Restored Director's Cut of Tobe Hooper's "Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2" --> MGM
2) the remaining Sergio Leone and Corbucci spaghetti westerns --> MGM & Anchor Bay
3) more Stuart Gordon ("From Beyond" Director's Cut and "The Pit & The Pendulum) --> MGM & Paramount
4) unreleased Lovecraft adaptations ("Bleeders", "The Unnamable", and "Necronomicon") --> New Line & who knows
5) Dark City: Director's Cut/SE --> New Line

I'll give you time to work on it list:

1) more Luis Bunuel (the rest of the French films and Mexican films) --> Criterion & Koch Lorber/Vision
2) Robert Aldrich's "The Last Sunset" --> Universal
3) Wes Craven's "Deadly Blessing" --> MGM
4) Enzo G. Castellari's "Inglorious Bastards"
5) John Carpenter's TV movies ("Elvis" and "Someone's Watching Me!")

Never gonna happen list:

1) complete, restored director's cut of "Once Upon a Time in America" --> Warner
2) classic 80's horror comedies ("Night of the Comet", "The Monster Squad", "Night of the Creeps", and "Blood Diner") --> I'm going to guess MGM, Sony & Paramount
3) remaining Lynch ("Fire Walk with Me" Special Edition, "Hotel Room", "Industrial Symphony #1", and a decent Region 1 release of "Lost Highway") --> New Line, Universal & who knows
4) the problematic Orson Welles films (original cut of "Othello", "The Other Side of the Wind", "The Deep", "Chimes at Midnight", etc.)
5) Phantasm II & III --> Universal

I'm crossing my fingers and holding my breath for another two years!

Looking back into my 2004 post, there are at least two good changes: Harold Lloyd films (last year) and Popeye (coming next year).

Nothing on Abel Gance's Napoleon (Universal/StudioCanal/Zoetrope), Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (Home Vision/Criterion), or The Thief and the Cobbler (Disney), though. Maybe I can hope for an 80th anniversary release of Napoleon next year, but I'd expect some sort of leak by now (like how Kevin Brownlow revealed upcoming DVDs for Unknown Chaplin and Hollywood).

To fill in for the two not requiring a mention, there are the post-1929 Laurel & Hardy films (RHI, I guess Lionsgate?) and remastered Eisenstein silents (Criterion).

glad you resurrected this one- these lists are always fun to read years later.
I'm amazed at how much stuff actually made it out that same year...and we never had a clue.

might as well do another too

1) Love With The Proper Stranger (never thought two years later I'd still be waiting on this one)
2) Ace In The Hole
3) The Wind (silent)
4) Hold Back The Dawn (maybe if Universal does a DeHavilland set)
5) Wanda Nevada or Goldengirl

top 5 most wanted HD DVDs

1) Superman The Movie
2) Jaws/ Jaws 2
3) the Searchers
4) The Year Of Living Dangerously
5) Wolfen

I started reading this thread and thought to myself, gee, these
titles have already been released
. Then I looked at the original
posting date.

So, here we are two years later and I think many of us have
gotten what we wanted.

If we were taking this poll today I think I would vote for the
following -- and please don't laugh at my choices....

1. It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World restored roadshow version (MGM)
2. The Nude Bomb (Universal)
3. The Gong Show Movie (Universal)
4. Frankenstein: The True Story (TV) (I have a DVD off a 16mm print)
5. Eddie Murphy: Delerious (Paramount)

ahem...(cough)...I think that kind of talk is frowned upon here, Ron ;)

good choice though. I saw that on tv back in the early seventies when i was 7 or 8 and there are still images that have stuck with me to this day. Its a shame Universal hasn't put this out on any home video medium yet.

1) Flash Gordon
2) Lifeforce
3) Photographing Fairies
4) Trapeze
5) Captain Ron (seriously needs a new anamorphic representation)

First few give me reason to purchase a good region free player rather than buy into the HD/BR balony. (Balogna, for you purists) ;)

Jane Eyre (1944) - Seriously...what's the holdup, Fox?

Yolanda and the Thief - The eye-popping Technicolor cries out for DVD.

Private Lives (1931)

Show People - I'd like to see any Marion Davies. I wouldn't mind The Patsy, either.

Ride the Pink Horse

The only one I truly want is Cool As Ice. That is by far the best worst movie of all-time, and it really needs a DVD release.

Here are mine, I guess. Mostly 1980's stuff anyway. I'll make it a top 10 (to be edited later) with no preference for order of the list. (Titles with an asterisk denote a film I've not fully seen or only read about.)

The Monster Squad
Howard the Duck
Jack's Back *
Air Force
The African Queen

Going to add more later...

Three out of five of my original list have been released (1, 2, and 3!). Here's my current list:

1. Split Image (hasn't even been on TV for years!)
2. Sins of Harold Diddlebock (a decent release of this)
3. Esther Williams box set
4. Eleanor Powell box set
5. Remaining Fred Astaire films (Yolanda and the Thief, restored Royal Wedding, etc.)

Looking back at my original post, I'm please to see that 3 of my 5 have been released. Guess I'll add three more to my original remaining two:

Bedazzled (1967)
99 River Street
The Conformist
Robinson Crusoe on Mars
The Double Life of Veronique

- Walter.
