Yes, I'm going to start counting votes on Tuesday, but I'll post another message here at the spot I've counted up to, so I can really give HTF members up until Saturday to post their lists.

1. Star Wars Trilogy
Finally!!!!! And yet watching these films was simply breath-taking at times. Amazing work by the restoration team
2. Lord Of The Rings : The Fellowship Of The Ring - Extended Edition
This is how extended versions of films should be put together and not simply including scenes for the sake of padding out the length of the film. And with the wealth of extras on these discs, what more could you ask for ?
3. Alien Quadrilogy
Loved the extended version of Alien3 even it it was without Fincher's involvement. His (understandable) absence on these discs is the only problem I can think of. Is there anything they didn't put on these discs ?
4. The Ultimate Matrix Collection
Its a real shame the Wachowski brothers are unwilling to comment on their films but there's so much here to watch anyway. A great idea to get critics of the films to do a commentary.
5. The Shawshank Redemption SE
Glad to see a re-release for this film
6. JFK Special Edition - Director's Cut
Oliver Stone's greatest film, though perhaps if he added "This is not a documentary" at the beginning of the film.... :) What makes this disc even better is Stone's commentary which is one of the best I have ever heard.
7. Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace
The quality of the film may be up for debate, but the documentary is not. This remains one of the best documentaries I have seen on the making of a film. My only criticism is, at 1 hour in length, its still too short.
8. The Abyss - Special Edition
The inclusion of a non-anamorphic disc in my mind speaks volumes about what else is on this disc. If only Fox would re-issue an anamorphic version
9. Toy Story - The Ultimate Toy Box
10. Terminator 2 : Judgment Day - Ultimate Edition

TV Box Sets

1. Star Trek : Deep Space Nine - Season 6
2. Farscape : Season 2
3. 24 : Season 2 - great extras, just don't watch them until you have finished the series.
4. Dune miniseries (Director's cut)
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 5

Acknowledging that this list might change the next time I think about it, and with apologies to Bergman, Dreyer and Truffaut for not having had the time to watch their Criterion box sets, here goes:

1. Untitled: Almost Famous the Bootleg Cut – for anyone who grew up in this era, Lester Bangs was right, “You’ll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle.” The Stairway to Heaven piece has to be one of the most creative extras on any disc.
2. The Battle of Algiers – reviewed by the Pentagon after 9/11 to better understand insurgency, this movie is remarkable for its stark realism. With 3 discs and a 56-page book, DVDs don’t come more comprehensive than this.
3. Sunrise – I know it was just marketing, but there’s something kind of special about knowing that you can’t just go to the store and buy this DVD.
4. Seabiscuit (2-Disc Collector's Set) – not necessarily a top ten movie, but a reference quality DVD that serves as great HT demo material. The beautiful red slipcase with an assortment of collectibles is the most elegant of box sets.
5. Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection – a great way to revisit old favorites like North By Northwest and Strangers on a Train, and a great introduction to less familiar titles like Foreign Correspondent and The Wrong Man.
6. Kieslowski's Three Colors (Blue, White, Red) – three great films by a brilliant but largely unknown director. At less than $30 this may be the best box set value around.
7. Once Upon a Time in the West – a magnificent transfer that makes this movie look and sound better on DVD than I ever remember it in the theater.
8. Rules of the Game – only Criterion could do justice to this cinematic treasure.
9. Tokyo Story – ditto.
10. The Fog of War – this is documentary film making of the highest order and with a timely message. If the theatrical version is not enough, the DVD has 24 additional scenes, plus a link to the Teacher’s Guide and lesson plans for further study.

And for TV:
1. The West Wing - Season One
2. The West Wing - Season Two
3. The West Wing - Season Three
4. The Sopranos - Season One

(ummm, just a little note from the rules)
but personally I don't see any reason for anyone to stop posting...;)

1) LOTR - EE
- the first to set the precedent plus a great film ... and I'm not even a fanboy

2) StarWars Trilogy
- 25 years old and looking fresh - the films are to be remembered in history for many reasons.

3) Toy Story 1
- another first, and with this set a precedent - great visual, great audio, great story, great family entertainment)

4) Godfather BoxSet
- The first Must Have Boxset.

5) Alien Quadrilogy
- The first Insane number of DVD's Boxset that was done just right

6) Saving Private Ryan - SE
- A release of a powerful film with DTS and NO DOLBY??? How dare they? (I'm glad they did!) Brilliant Film. The actual creation of the gunfire audio for this film is reason enough alone to own it.

7) Das Boot - Superbit
- Wolfgang Petersen's epic. The first film for me that taught me it's sometimes better to watch a film in a foreign language. A Superbit presentation moves this into the Top 10

8) Once Upon A Time in the West
- Yes I know the Good Bad & Ugly SE is better but this was released first and it let us know that Sergio Leone's films were being released in all their splendor AND NOT BEFORE they were wonderfully restored. A very important release.

9) Fight Club - SE
- Extra Extra Extra Wow, 5 commentaries? Multi Angle?

10) Top Gun - SE and Who Framed Roger Rabbit
- One has the guts to take a very average storyline film and re-release it with a powerful DTS track and excellent video restoration, and even better, the release is available at a very low price.

-The other finally overcame bickering to release another one of the very important films in history.

TV - Top Three (this genre is too new for me to even put a top five together)

Band of Brothers
-Shows like this prove TV really can be done right.

Beatles Anthology
-er... WOW!

Simpsons - Season 4
Relying on my kids to fill this one in.;)
