At long last, the result site for the Top 100 DVD Census is up:

    http://cinema-review.com/dvd/000018/index.php

I started this new thread to discuss the results. Please let me know here if I've messed-up anything or have gotten any facts wrong. Errors are bound to creep in throughout a month of writing 9,000 words on a subject.

You may also leave general comments on the individual pages of the site.

Great job! I'm sure you spent an incredible amount of time putting this site together. I am going to have come back to this tonight after work, so I can finish reading all of the descriptions.

One major caveat is there's no mention of prior rankings. Last years list had the previous years rankings, it'd be nice if we coul dhave the previous year(s) to compare the returning titles again.

One comment, Oh how the mighty have fallen, Shrek is off the list, after a top ten spot two years ago, astounding. :p

    Own:
    runners up - 3
100-81 - 4-5 (lawrence of arabia 2 disc, but not the superbit)
80-61 - 4-5 (ET regular release, not gift set)
    60-41 - 5
    40-21 - 10
    20-40 - 12

Not too bad, and I've rented or seen probably close tto 80% of the nominated dvds.

I initially had last year's rankings, but since I didn't do the list last year and more than half of the list is new, it seemed kinda redundant to have "Last Year: N/A" on nearly 60 of the 100 entries.

Next year I'll certainly compare them with this year's standings - it'll be easier since I won't have to start from scratch.

Jough, great job. I'm pleased to see that the Ric Flair collection was number 68 on the list, and actually passed that info on to a few wrestling sites.

Wow...a "best of DVD" list with which I have absolutely no complaints. Amazing. It even has 20,000 Leagues on it. I sort of have a chip on my shoulder about that title -- DVDFile didn't review it. Digital Bits didn't review it. It was hard to find *any* reviews for it (though good ol' HTF came through with a rave). The former editor of IGN DVD promised me he was going to review it -- and then the guy quit for another gig. It was like the title had been sucked into some sort of "DVD Review Black Hole". Here I am, ranting and raving about it like a madman, with little to no critical backup.

Glad to see it make this list. The Leagues DVD more than deserves the belated recognition. Too bad such accolades didn't surface last Summer. The title may have sold better, prompting Disney to do more two-disc editions of their classics in their OAR. The only thing that motivates that company under Eisner is money. If we want quality pressings, we need to support them when they actually manage to do something right. They hit one out of the park with Leagues, and the crowd was silent.

Excellent website. I'm sad that I only have 6 out of the top 20 in my collection (give me a break, I've only been collecting DVDs for a little over a year now).

This list is really helping me put together a great personal want list. I can trust that everything on here is worth having. It's nice to see the collective opinions of the world's smartest DVD/film fans and purists alike.

I figured I'd do the breakdown of the numbers I have in each catagory.

Category (Number of those listed that I own)
DVDs that got votes that Didn’t make the list: (31)
    25 runners up: (4)
    100-81 (2)
    80-61 (1)
    60-41 (3)
    40-21 (4)
    20-1 (8)

Of my 270 titles 53 were mentioned somewhere on this list. and i have 18 of the top 100 DVDs. A friend of mine will have a much much higher number like probably somewhere in the 30's. I'm sure many go even higher than that and some probably have all 100 on the list.

Here is the breakdown of the number of DVDs that made the list that I own:

    25 runners up: (I own 2)
    100-81 (6)
    80-61 (6)
    60-41 (9)
    40-21 (9)
    20-1 (13)

So, I have 43 of the top 100 on the list - in the exact same issue. I also have about 5 or 6 others in alternate versions. Although, I have now had to add about half a dozen others to my wish list!

    80-61 (5)
    60-41 (4)
    40-21 (4)
    20-1 (7)

...from a total of 179 DVDs.

    A very good list indeed.

For the record, I own the exact version of 55 of these and 12 others in alternate versions.
