Everybody Hates Lawyers Until They Need One.

That could apply to many things, though. Some people may say they hate cops, but nevertheless call 911 when someone breaks into their house.

To a certain degree, the problems with frivolous lawsuits is a matter of supply and demand. Just as there can be too many police (when crime rates drop), when there are too many lawyers and not enough "real" cases, there are two possibilities: lessen the number of lawyers or find new wrongs for people to sue over.
